Ever gone away for a week and forgotten to take your tablets with you? I think by the time I make it home I will have not taken it for 8 days.

Disaster or tolerable?

On 175 mcg

starfishofbethlehem · 27/12/2021 00:26

Obviously it's variable how if affects people, but even if you are OK for a few days lr a week it will catch up with you.

111 can organise emergency meds for you to collect.

@thecatneuterer

depends. I only take it because a routine blood test showed I need it apparently. But I feel no different whether I take it or not. So there will be a huge range of answers from people it makes a big difference to, to people like me. Maybe it depends on the dose.
Same. I take 75mg daily and feel no difference whether I take it or not!
Floralnomad · 27/12/2021 01:07

I take 100 mcg and it makes absolutely no difference to me .

caringcarer · 27/12/2021 01:23

I take 175 per day and went on holiday 2 years ago before Covid and somehow forgot them. I rang my son who has a key and next day he drove over and got them and posted them to me through the post signed for next day delivery. I got them on morning of day 4 and was already constipated and feeling very tired.

FurryAntiWaxer · 27/12/2021 01:40

I just got back from 3 nights without it and feel knackered. I fasted the journey home so I could take it straight away.

Kyliealwayshadthebestdisco · 27/12/2021 02:24

I would definitely notice it if I miss even one day and just feel rubbish but am on quite a high dose - 200 mcg - and also think I’m more sensitive to it than the average person. I did once not being quite enough on holiday in Italy and was able to get more easily at a pharmacy, it can just be bought over the counter there for pennies. So if you’re abroad somewhere in Europe we’ll worth trying this, in the Uk you could ask your own GP to send an electronic prescription (but this doesn’t work in N Ireland and I think Scotland too).

RosesAndHellebores · 27/12/2021 08:52

The fact it can be bought otc 9n the Continent for pennies makes a mockery of 56 day prescribing for this particular drug. I took 100mcg from 1990 to about 2016 and 112.5 thereafter (100 daily; 25 every other day). There is no need for monitoring more than annually for most of us. But I guess if practices have time and resources to muck about every 56 days they can't complain about over work.

I just go onto my NHS app and order it doesn’t really get monitored more than once a year.
RosesAndHellebores · 27/12/2021 10:03

I appreciate that @scrooge89 but it still means that has to be done five more times a year than it should with five additional trips to the pharmacy and five additional orescriptions prepared and signed and noted. It's all bureaucratic make work at a time when GPs are supposed to be crumbling under pressure of work.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 27/12/2021 11:12

I once went without for two weeks as the receptionist at the doctors surgery wouldn’t give me an emergency perscription

I was struggling at the time with the dosage so to be fair I just felt knackered constantly
