I'm moving into a new build soon. I have not physically seen it yet. But its a new build social housing. I do not understand square meters. So could anyone tell me if theses are good size rooms ?

Kitchen 10m2
Dinning room 18m2
Living room 18m2
2 bedrooms are 12m2
Bedroom 14m2
Bedroom 8m2

It’s a good size house. My neighbours have a just over 100m2 town house and that is small especially on the ground floor. Yours is one and a half times theirs.

Viviennemary · 22/12/2021 11:56

How is it one and a half times theirs. I make it 82 square metres. Confused

HaggisBurger · 22/12/2021 11:59

@Homeatlast2 if it’s in the process of being built / built there will be floor plans on the planning permission application which will be on your local authority planning portal online. Just Google street name / planning permission etc and should come up.

PJPatrol · 22/12/2021 12:00

Surely the total area would include hallway, landing, downstairs toilet, bathroom, ensuite etc? Hence the different figure

bordermidgebite · 22/12/2021 12:01

Hall ways abs stairs and bathroom make up some of the missing area I would suggest

Viviennemary the OP’s is 142 square meters.

Viviennemary · 22/12/2021 12:08

Ok. But I still don't get it.

ClaudiaWankleman · 22/12/2021 12:12

Ok. But I still don't get it.

You only have to read the full description of the house to understand that not every room's dimension are listed. There are 3 bathrooms missing for a start, plus 3 floors of hallways, landings and stairs.

If its a newbuild then there will be plans at your local council.
Go onto the website and check there they will have plans of the insides of property as well as the outside

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 22/12/2021 12:36

Can you Google the name of the building company? You should be then be able to find “your” style of house on their website

bilbodog · 22/12/2021 12:38

Can you find a house on rightmove which looks similar in size which has a floorplan and compare the sizes with the one you are buying?

cherrypiepie · 22/12/2021 12:42

@Bluntness100 thanks for explaining makes sense and seems obvious that it would be hallways etc now!

Thanks for explaining. I do get it now. It does seem a fair sized house. OP should take it.

itsgettingwierd · 22/12/2021 13:34

Each floor is roughy 30m2.

For a two house this is likely to be 7x4m (give or take the extra)

So don't think about overall size but how it will work for you.

The kitchen and dining is bottom floor. You don't have to have it set this way. You can use the second room as suits you and perhaps have a table, sofa and tv or playroom and table or even lounge and fold out table or whatever?

The second floor with lounge and bedroom can be used as you wish.

Do you want it as lounge, playroom? Can you use is as lounge and playroom and will the 3 bedrooms upstairs then accommodate everyone for sleeping and clothes storage only?

It's not the largest space but space is really only refined as spacious as you make it.

IKEA has some great designs!
