Worried about DH sats level

Sorry I know we hate these threads and the default answer is don't asked the internet for medical advice etc. but here I am asking, what would you do??

DS and lots of his class were ill earlier in the week, all negative PCRs, just a bad cold bug (we all had Covid in October).

DH started to feel unwell yesterday, negative LFT so think it's just caught off DS. Today he has been asleep on and off all day, temp between 37.8 and 38.9. He sounds short of breath, quite wheezy and rattly. I've borrowed an oximeter and he was at 95 earlier, now settling at 92.

He's done another lft and still negative, PCR booked tomorrow. He's eating and drinking a bit.

He has heart failure. I think we need to ring 111 but he's refusing, I don't know what to do. What do you do when a grown man is refusing??

Hope he’s ok. Just re the lateral flow and pcr tests. My daughter had a negative lat flow but then tested positive on the pcr test. Hope your husband is ok 💐

@crushedgrape - sending you a handhold.

crushedgrape · 18/12/2021 22:04

I've dropped him at a&e, hate not being able to go in with him. Just need to wait to hear something now. He had perked up a bit but obviously somethings not right.

Thanks all.

Glad he is being seen. Hope all is okay.

Rexthesnail · 19/12/2021 17:09

How is he?

crushedgrape · 19/12/2021 20:40

@Rexthesnail he had bloods done and a chest X-ray and it's 'just' a bad chest infection. Got strong antibiotics and needs to make a follow up appt at the gp on Tuesday. Sats are now over 95, but temp is still around 38.

Hope he’s on the mend soon! 💐

crushedgrape · 23/12/2021 07:08

So DH still not well and although SATs now sitting at 96, temp still up and down, he doesn't really seem any better. He's on day 4 of antibiotics now. Chest very rattly, long productive coughing fits

He has now lost his taste and smell. LFTs still negative. He's going for another PCR today just in case.

Surely he should be starting to improve by now?

Did he see the gp for a follow up? What did they say? I'd call 111 for advice, maybe he needs different antibiotics or maybe he needs IV antibiotics. Don't leave it as infections will just get worse if not being adequately treated and obviously it will put more stress on his heart.

crushedgrape · 23/12/2021 07:44

It was a telephone appt with the gp 🙄, he didn't really say much just continue with the antibiotics.

Sorry he’s still not feeling well. The one thing to consider is that with heart failure the lungs can also be compromised because of the heart’s inefficiency, so if he gets a chest infection he is more likely to develop fluid etc in his lungs which make things seem much worse for him.

I am in heart failure and even the common cold can throw me out for weeks if it goes on to my chest, and is something I need to keep a close eye on.

Do you know what his EF (ejection fraction) is? Also, does he have a heart failure nurse? If so it would be a good idea to speak to them just to get some reassurance.

Mummysgonetobed · 23/12/2021 07:54

Slightly different as was my toddler DS but we’ve recently had a hospital stay with “just” a bad chest infection. Same symptoms as your DH. It took a second lot of antibiotics (different ones) and over 2 weeks to clear his chest completely. Hope he’s better soon.

Starryskiesinthesky · 23/12/2021 07:59

I would get him to contact GP again.

crushedgrape · 23/12/2021 09:57

Thank you

@AlternativePerspective thanks for your input and what to look out for. EF is 28%, well it was 2 years ago when last checked, he has been discharged from his heart failure nurse back to GP. It feels like with Covid he has just been left a bit tbh.

I'll get him another gp appointment.
