Tell me about your tiny pleasures please.

I'm struggling enough with staying positive atm, and January is likely to be horrendous. I am trying to think of as many little things as I can that will bring me pleasure, to try and help me through it.

They need to be really tiny, because I don't have the mental energy to make any major changes to my life; and preferably not food-related, because while the temptation to comfort-eat is definitely there, getting overweight will just depress me more.

So far I've got:

  • Books. I used to read a lot but these days I'm always on my phone instead. Going to try and stop that and read more instead.
  • Soft blankets. Sounds silly but there is something very comforting about wrapping myself up in a cosy blanket, preferably with a good book.
  • Fresh flowers. I figure a once a week lovely bouquet that will make me smile when I see it is a worthwhile investment.

I'd love to hear some other suggestions please.

Oh and handmade soaps. They don't have to be expensive. I like Aurora soaps, and would like to try some from gartur stitch farm too, but there are heaps of sellers on etsy. If you have instagram and start following soap makers you'll get loads more suggested. I like soap making videos on YouTube too Grin

Coming back after reading one tip to say please don't feed bread to birds! It doesn't have to be an all you can tweet expensive buffet. A decent-sized bag of mixed seed is available for a pound or a large sack for £6. Xmas Smile

We also have a very keen ornithologist, @IWannaWishYouANutNutsChristmas - from the safety (for the birds!) of a window or the catio! The strange and very funny noise made here is something akin to an evil cartoon villain laughing!

I was saying yes to everything on your list! Except the feather and down toiletries as I have never heard of them. Maybe I should check them out Grin

Baby cuddles are the best. It's something about the "dead weight" of a sleeping infant.

I'm not usually in the least bit broody but I've been looking after my baby niece lately, and it takes me right back.

It's hilarious isn't it?

Birds are quite safe from mine too. They do random flying leaps out of bushes and are sorely disappointed that there seems to be more to catching birds than that. Grin
