I DID IT!

I had a horrific injury back in June. In bed for a month followed by getting around on a frame, and then finally on crutches.

I've been having a bit of a recurring dream about walking with no assistance and I thought this evening, why not give it a try? My injury is healed, it's just a matter of building up muscle, and I have been working hard!

Well... I DID IT!! I took THREE unassisted steps for the first time in SIX AND A HALF MONTHS!

I have physiotherapy tomorrow and I can't wait to tell her. It's something we tried last time but fear got the best of me and I backed out at the last second. I'm SO pleased! It can only go up from here Grin

Have to say, on a forum so depressing and horrible at the moment.. This is BY FAR one of the most uplifting, inspirational and heart warming threads I've read for a long time. Thank you op. You've given me hope that beautiful people in the world exist. Your courage is unbelievable and your post has truly made me tearful. No matter what has happened, you haven't let it deter you and you've fought and fought and it's paying off. You're an inspiration.

Amazing! Very well done

Thank you so much everyone. It keeps hitting me over and over - I actually did it!

My injury was actually related to 'just walking', rather than a sports injury or something like that. I only fell over on the beach but the damage was a total freak accident. So I had really given up on my body, if I can hurt myself from doing something so mundane, how could I trust myself again?

But I did it. And now I can move forward. I haven't left the house other than to go to the hospital since June. My vaccine was scheduled in for a couple of weeks after my fall and homes team wouldn't come out to me so I am FINALLY going to get my first covid jab. I'm going to go for country drives with my partner (sorry, environment), and eventually go on country walks, and then when I'm there, I'll go on a beach again. Not for a while, there's still too much fear. But... one day. I feel like I can live again.

And yes fingers crossed the recovery will go quickly from here Smile
The confidence I feel from those first few steps is immesurable.
