Tony's Chocolonely

This happened on 8th December so I'm not sure why I haven't seen it until now. An advent calendar from Tony's took away a chocolate to highlight inequality within the chocolate industry and the children that work in the industry. As a marketing tool I thought it was clever. Opinion however was divided as there was no warning for neurodivergent children so they did issue an apology...

Made me really think though......if you have a moment have a read of their statement and why they did it....

I’m assuming all the ‘world’s gone mad’ posters are referring to the fact that child labour and slavery are used to produced chocolate?

Not that anyone has left a bit of chocolate out of an advent calendar, surely?

@Delphinna

Also I notice they refer to it as a “countdown calendar” not an advent calendar. Countdown to what? If you don’t believe in advent/Christmas then you don’t need a countdown calendar because you’re not counting down to anything!
Advent begins on the 4th Sunday before Christmas… so they’re actually correct to not call it an advent calendar. Perhaps your grievance should be that advent calendars don’t cover the whole of advent, as you care so passionately about advent.

It was a stupid idea. No child is going to be scarred for life by the lack of a chocolate, but I hate being preached to at the best of times and never by a bloody advent calendar.

Who remembers the same advent calendar being brought out year in year out with the doors reclosed each time?
