For anyone missing Cadburys

Now that it's been totally ruined with palm oil/candle wax I've recently discovered a great alternative! Mackies - a Scottish chocolate brand using proper ingredients.
Creamy and delicious!
I do eat 'good dark chocolate' too but sometimes I just want sweet and creamy
Anyone else have any recommendations?

Has anyone found this anywhere in English supermarkets? It looks a bit pricey direct from Mackies!

comfortablyfrumpy · 11/12/2021 20:30

Mackies is lovely - and I have often found it in Lidl when I have bulk bought

YourVagesty · 11/12/2021 20:31

Booo Cadburys!

They ruined Roses and nobody buys them any more. I haven't seen them really pushed in the supermarkets or on TV as they used to be around Christmas.

I love Gnaw, Temprd and Love Cocoa.

Pavlova31 · 11/12/2021 20:57

Beeches Chocolates online shop.
Lovely creamy chocolate and a variety of bars, truffles, fondants etc .

Pavlova31 · 11/12/2021 21:00

I also like the Ritter range too.

HarrisMcCoo · 11/12/2021 21:38

Ritter's for me. Delicious.

DappledThings · 11/12/2021 21:41

I can't taste any difference with Cadbury's. Not that I buy chocolate very often but I don't think I could pick out a bit of Dairy Milk from a piece of anything else in a blind test

CheshireCats · 11/12/2021 21:45

Aldi Moser Roth is nice

Waterlemon · 11/12/2021 21:56

Waitrose own brand is lovely too, it hAs that crunch/snap when you bite it that most chocolate doesn’t have anymore,. It’s Palm Oil free

I started buying it after a recommendation on here a couple of years ago

Chunkymenrock · 11/12/2021 21:59

@WhatDidISayAlan

I discovered Tony’s on a trip to the ‘Dam 10 years ago - they have a shop there now with loads of different flavours; Eton Mess, Popping Candy, Pina Colada, raspberry and white chocolate, you name it. I have a friend who goes every year and brings me 10 bars back - I am obsessed with it.
It's available on Amazon!
Shade17 · 11/12/2021 22:04

Palm oil was first used as a tractor lubricant. That fact alone makes me loathe to eat food with it in

I think they probably use new palm oil in the chocolate Grin

ASimpleLobsterHat · 11/12/2021 22:06

I’ll second waitrose own brand. No palm oil. Tastes the best of any supermarket chocolate I’ve had.

3luckystars · 11/12/2021 22:06

I’m in Ireland and Cadbury’s is disgusting here too. Tubs of roses are left over after Christmas. It’s awful.
I ate a purple snack bar last week and thought I had Covid but no it just had no taste. It’s very sad.

Lindt is lovely. I just wish Cadbury could go back to the way it was though.

I miss Cadburys. A twirl is not the same.

It would be very difficult to return to the old way of making it as the factory in Keynsham has been sold and is now the home of Pukka Teas , a retirement village and my doctors surgery.

SoSickOfItNow · 15/12/2021 11:31

@RedRobin100

Tony’s Chocoloney

👌

Tony’s tastes like cheap cooking chocolate to me!
Marmite27 · 15/12/2021 11:34

I don’t like Tony’s either.

I do like Lindt excellence and Aldi Moser Roth though

It’s £4.99 postage @WaltzingBetty. I was all set to order some for Scottish DH for his stocking but the postage bumps it up too high for a little treat.

Thought you had covid Grin
bendmeoverbackwards · 15/12/2021 11:49

I like Tony’s.

Might try the Waitrose ones but they look a bit thin, I like chunky chocolate.

NalPolishRemover · 15/12/2021 12:40

We love Tonys here. I especially love the sea salt caramel one & dd loves the milk chocolate.

She also loves the little tubs of hotel chocolat milk buttons

And her favourite is Aldi dairyfine milk.

I recently had milka with tuc & enjoyed it

Our local polish shop sells E. Wedels & I really love some of them. Happy memories of sitting outside the E. Wedel cafe on the square in Krakow a couple of years back

We rarely bother with Cadburys at all. Though I was given a gift of the Cath Kidston roses tin this year. It'll make a nice cake tin afterwards but I predict we'll throw away 50% of the sweets in Jan

DroopyClematis · 15/12/2021 15:59

I used to love it when we received a tin of Quality Street or Roses when I was a child, but now we don't buy them anymore and ( hate saying this) feel rather deflated if we get one as a gift.
They usually get half eaten then binned.

You'd think the manufacturers would have twigged by now.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/12/2021 16:01

Nice chocolate you say ?
Without candle wax ?
I am excited now, I will google. Ta OP.
