How much fruit do you eat in a day?

I’ve had a terrible diet for the last year and basically gorged myself 18lbs heavier. I am taking control of my diet again and have been eating well for the last 3 weeks. I love fruit and have been eating a great selection each day.

I’d like to see what everyone else does (working from home, so hard to compare) I am currently eating; red grapes, clementines, watermelon and kiwi on a daily basis. I just want to feel healthier by feeding my body the things that are good for it. (Yes I know about the sugar content but I don’t drink fizzy drinks or ass sugar to anything so I can cope with that)

Mince pies definitely count, not sure about Quality Street...Grin

I did eat all the strawberry and orange cremes so basically a fruit salad I'm sure Grin

In that case they definitely do count, as does lots of cheese, mainly because I said so

If only eating your 5 cheeses a day was a thing I could do that easily!

delilahbucket · 11/12/2021 21:20

None whatsoever.aybe buy some twice a year. I don't think that eating fruit every day is good for you, it's still sugar. The only people I've ever known to eat fruit every day either have diabetes and/or are obese. Just because it is fruit does not mean it's healthy to gorge on it. It's still calories, mostly empty ones, and it still throws your blood sugars out of whack.

I always have a glass of orange juice in the morning and then for pudding after evening meal I have some strawberries or melon in the summer, pears and plums in the autumn. I like apple slices with nut butter too. I do prefer veg though and of course, like pp, cheese Grin

PurpleDaisies · 11/12/2021 21:25

None. I’m not a fan at all.

Loads of veg though.

ISpyCobraKai · 11/12/2021 21:25

Yes Novasmummy
I could be one of those people that say 5 isn't enough, and I eat 10, at least.

NettleMania · 11/12/2021 21:29

I love oranges. Started when I was pregnant with Dd18!
I eat 3 - 4 large ones a day, plus maybe one or two other fruits.
I guess that's my five day.
I eat them after meals as a sweet treat.

I can’t see anything in the official NHS guidance but I have read before that it is advised to get most of your 5 a day from vegetables, not fruit. The American guidance is no more than 2 portions fruit a day which makes sense. Fruit is quite sugary and much higher in calories than non-starchy veg, so it’s best to up vegetables if watching your weight
