Birthdays close to Christmas

Those of you who have birthdays close to Christmas - how bad is it now you are adults if people get you a bigger combined present rather than two smaller separate presents? I would never do it for a child but my partner has his birthday very close to Christmas and I was considering getting him something big for Christmas, much more than I would usually spend on just one present, and then a small token present for his birthday. Is this unacceptable or is it all right once you're an adult?

My birthday is 3 months from Christmas, and sometimes as a child I chose to get a joint present to get something bigger. On one occasion something I really wanted was 2 birthday and 2 Christmas presents.

What I really hated was when me and dsis were given a joint present and then dbro got his own. Always that way round. I hated that because it was clearly a lack of thought (me and dsis were very different and liked very different things, so a hit for one wouldn't have been for the other) and never was it that we got a bigger present.

So from that I'd say, if it is a double sized present, fine. If it's just a "can't be bothered to think of two presents" then not fine.

My Birthday is June and I've had combined presents before now, where the best present is way over budget for 1 event.

Good point everyone who said about doing the big present on his birthday rather! And thanks for all perspectives.
