I have a teaching interview on Wednesday but…

I’m not a teacher!! It’s for a 6th form, teaching a levels. I have a first class degree in the subject and a bit of private tutoring experience, but I have never taught a class, or had to do a proper lesson plan or anything.

I have to give a 45 minute lesson to a class, as well as all the usual interview stuff.

I know it’s a very long shot that I’ll get the job, but I am hoping not to make a complete idiot of myself if possible. Any advice from teachers appreciated 😬

Oh love I’m so sorry 🙁 They won’t necessarily discount you surely. Someone with less integrity would have gone I bet!! You’ve shown them what sort of person you are. I so hope they give you the opportunity to show them how wonderful you are XX

I've done a fair few interviews recently (as an interviewer) and every single round of interviews has had at least one person cancel due to covid and we have rescheduled them. It delays the process somewhat but these things are inevitable at the moment and I wouldn't want to miss out on a good candidate because they had to isolate. Hopefully they will reschedule for you (and your test is negative so won't be too long to wait)!

@Dontfuckingsaycheese thank you, you never know, I did say that I would be very happy to reschedule but they haven’t replied to my email and when I phoned this morning I got the answer phone. On all the original stuff they sent over it said that they would make a decision by the end of today regarding who was successful, so if either of the others were any good I expect they already have the job.

But c’est la vie, I’m trying to be philosophical about it, what’s not meant for you won’t pass you by and all that. I’m just in the middle of filling out an application to do a SCITT in the next county over (they don’t do one in my county). As a PP said, throwing myself in at the deep end mightn’t be the fairest thing for the kids whose A levels are approaching. I hate getting things wrong and feeling unprepared too, so maybe this is the best way forward.

Oh what a shame, but things do seem to work out for the best and maybe the SCITT route would will turn out to be better for you.

I hope you feel better soon.

Have you heard anything back yet? You could apply to do a PGCE
