I've recently started working later so having to cook later, We've always eaten about 5/6pm so finishing after this time then having to get home and cook feels so late. Colleagues say they always eat 7/8ish anyway, so were surprised we ate so early before.

Just curious on times others eat main meal now (with children aged over 10yrs) on a working week day.

Through choice around 1900, but it really depends what’s going on that particular evening.

TheChosenTwo · 20/11/2021 19:59

If I’m cooking (rare) I like to have cooked, eaten and cleared up by 7.
When dh cooks (usually), it can be anything between 7-10! The later end of the spectrum is not that often but will be at the weekends when it happens, weekdays he usually serves dinner between 7-8.
Tonight will be probably 9, he is teaching dd to make homemade chips, ds has pressed the burgers and he’s made buns. Everything is made from scratch as much as possible but it really does take forever (and I keep to myself that things like buns are fine bought from the shop! I told him his pasta tastes the same as shop bought fresh pasta once and he’s never recovered Grin ).

Fuck, that reminded me he actually asked me to make coleslaw and I’m lying on the bed in a towel Grin

When dc were that age,, we were eating at about 5.45pm.
Now all are adults, we eat at about 6 - 6.30.

Ever time this question gets asked though it turns into more and more extreme people expressing complete disbelief that anyone else's life could be different from their own Wink

SickAndTiredAgain · 20/11/2021 20:01

5:30-6pm as we eat with DD (2.5).

DGFB · 20/11/2021 20:03

7.30-8

mafted · 20/11/2021 20:07

Anywhere between 5:30 and 9:00. 7 is probably the average.
I try and cook for a time everyone will be eating as I hate cooking more than once and nobody really likes reheated food.

GOODCAT · 20/11/2021 20:17

Only get home at 10 past 8 during the week so however long it takes to cook after that. At weekends it is far more variable.

NigellaSeed · 20/11/2021 20:21

5-30/6pm we have a toddler and all eat together

theneverendinglaundry · 20/11/2021 20:26

5ish. We like to eat with the kids, all together. Plus I couldn't bear to have to cook and tidy up twice!

Agadorsparticus · 20/11/2021 20:36

Anywhere between 4 and 8pm. Usually around 6pm if DH is on days. 5ish if not and the kids are hungry after school. Later on a weekend as we have breakfast and lunch later.

HarrisMcCoo · 20/11/2021 20:40

4pm usually. DH finishes work 3pm. Kids all starving by then.

SparklingXmas · 20/11/2021 20:42

5ish kids are 13,11 and 5

TheCreamCaker · 20/11/2021 20:48

6pm or thereabouts (only the 2 of us now though). When my sons were little, we all ate together as a family at about 5.30

InFiveMins · 20/11/2021 20:51

About 6:30pm

TulipVictory · 20/11/2021 20:57

4-5

mrsfollowill · 20/11/2021 20:59

6.15- 6.30 here during the week - I work from home, DH works 5 min drive away - I'm usually finished working 5.15-5.30 and so is he. Adult DS gets in 5 ish so it suits us- I do not have the energy to cook after 7 in the week- we are all cleared away and washed up by 7. Weekends are different and can sometime be 8 or 9 when we eat.

WimpoleHat · 20/11/2021 21:01

For preference, 8/8.30. Aim for 7.30 though, because it suits the kids better.

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/11/2021 22:54

3 adults in a he house now . I aim for 8.00 although it is sometimes a bit later.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/11/2021 09:04

7.30 or 8 ideally, can be a bit later.

I think it is unusual to eat as early as you have been, but you might find you need a tea-time snack (I do!) about 4/4.30 at work.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/11/2021 09:06

🤭 I hope it was delicious! 😁
