Twins name order, by age?

I have twins and we always refer to them in the same order for some reason, eg it’s Adam and James. This is also the order they were born in, Adam was born first. I know lots of other twins but only one set do I know the birth order, and they are also normally said with the oldest first. I know it’s normal for siblings to go in birth/age order when writing cards etc.
So from the twins you know, are they always said in birth order? I’m just musing on a Friday night!

Some names flow better one way and some the other. It’s the same as some couples are referred to by husband’s name and wife’s name and some as wife’s name and husband’s name.

In mine it's the one that arrived first. Plus the names flow better that way round. Then again they're typically just callled "the girls".

I have twins, I purposefully swap the order I say and write their names around.

I have twins and I say their names in birth order, it's sounds strange to me to say it the other way as I'm so used to it. Everyone who knows us says them in birth order too.

@WhatsWrongWithMyUsername

If I’d had twins I’d have given the second born the first name in the alphabet, to keep things mixed up. I think my friend did this with her triplets (trying to remember birth order now!).
I did this.

In family it’s generally DD1, then DD2, but when they were at school or anywhere with a register it was DD2 then DD1.

Their friendship groups tend to call them X and Y with X being the one they are closest with.

I have b/g twins and I usually say the girls, who was born second, first. I never planned to or really thought about it, I just do. If they are writing in birthday cards and things it's just whichever one gets to it first who goes first!

takingmytimeonmyride · 13/11/2021 16:08

I refer to my two in birth order, which is also alphabetical order.

It's usually when I'm talking to other people so they're not around to hear so I've never thought of the younger (by a few minutes) feeling left out. He's not my youngest child anyway, so if I'm talking about all my kids he's not mentioned last as i usual go in age order when talking with all 5 of them.

EverythingsComingUpRoses · 13/11/2021 16:11

I'm a twin and my parents always said our names in age order which also happened to be alphabetical order and 'ladies first' order Grin

The wider family just called us (and all the other twins in our family) 'the twins'

I bloody hated it but I had 3 sets of twin cousins, my dad is a twin, my mum has sisters who are twins and 2 of my grandparents were twins -apparently I was the only one that ever complained about it!

GOODCAT · 13/11/2021 16:19

My siblings are twins and it always followed age order, but more recently the younger twin has become more the hub of the family and it has switched a bit. Within the family they mostly get referred to as "the twins" though.

LittleRedYoshi · 13/11/2021 18:03

BUT It was EMC so was the dominant twin born first?????

The order twins come out generally isn't affected by the birth method - mine were labelled "T1" and "T2" right from the first pregnancy scan based on their positions in the womb - i.e. T1 was the twin that was lower down and so would come out first.

We also used the method of giving the name that's first alphabetically to T2, so that one is first by age and the other is first alphabetically. When saying their names, we say the eldest one first.

AudTheDeepMinded · 13/11/2021 18:06

I'm a twin and family always list us in birth order. But it has evened out as we have aged as our individual friends always start with the one they know best!

IndecentCakes · 13/11/2021 18:10

I'm a twin, never thought about it but now I do, we are in birth order and alphabetical order (second letter).

Nahhh · 13/11/2021 18:12

My twins are in birth order but I purposefully named them with twin 2’s name being earlier in the alphabet so at school they’re first in the register.

Lilolily · 13/11/2021 18:25

I alternate mine in cards and try to in life. Others don’t and always say them in birth order, which upset the younger for a time because she felt like everything was her sisters and she was just tagging along.
