Anyway...anyone know of any boxes of coloured tissues??

Dd1 played a song that made me cry a bit & she passed me a tissue & I commented that I was sure you used to be able to get coloured tissues.

I had completely forgotten about coloured tissues and toilet roll. I remember when I moved into my first place, I always bought peach toilet roll because I thought it was sophisticated 😂😳

MountainDweller · 12/11/2021 23:18

I remember them too... we moved to Europe 20 years ago and I just assumed you could still get them in the U.K.! Sometimes I see a fancy box that looks like it should have coloured tissues in but it doesn't Sad

I remember tissues with patterns on too, like little coloured flowers on white tissues. Strangely you can get pink loo roll here still as well as white, but no other colours... and I bought white loo roll embossed with lilac flowers on holiday!

Tiramiwho · 13/11/2021 00:03

I always lamented the fact you couldn't buy Avocado green toilet paper to match our bathroom 😊 Had to make do with pastel yellow or blue!

When I was little I wanted cheerleader pom-poms so made myself some out of torn up coloured tissues. I used an entire box and my mum went mad Grin

There’s an episode of Only Fools where you see packs of coloured loo roll in their kitchen, that always takes me back to the 80s where my one nan had green to match her bathroom and the other always had peach to match hers.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 13/11/2021 06:24

Ooh when we decorated our downstairs loo i bought some purple loo roll on amazon to match the purple walls 😂 renovo make it in every bright shade you can imagine. I just looked and there was unicorn loo roll on amazon too! When i was young i remember my mum putting out a roll of scratchy green paper made to look like pound notes 😳

Love it !!!! @ShowOfHands did you win a prize ?

DroopyClematis · 13/11/2021 11:51

Aaah! How beautiful @ShowOfHands

I remember, in the 80s , how we used to spend hours at home making those flowers to pop onto aprons or sacks for a bride to be to wear on her last day at work before she got married.

I also remember pushing my eldest , in her pram around Sainsbury's and almost squealing with delight at seeing lavender coloured toilet paper! Was so fed up of peach, yellow, blue or green paper; white was just boring (!)

Bloatstoat · 13/11/2021 12:49

I love it @ShowOfHands! I hope you won It brings back memories of making Easter bonnets by covering hats in those tissue paper flowers.

Boood · 13/11/2021 12:55

All my friends used to have coloured loo roll. My mum refused to buy it because it was bad for the environment. Just occasionally, she was ahead of her time.
Thinking about it, she was probably more swayed because it was a bit common.

ShowOfHands · 13/11/2021 13:01

First prize. I was so excited. School fetes aren't the same for my children. We had a bring and buy, a fancy dress parade, coconut shy and so on. Now there are a lot of inflatable slides and bouncy castles charging £4 a pop. We had quoits, a 10p tombola and welly wanging. And our Mums had perms. And skirts run up on the sewing machine the night before.

Aah, takes me back.

RancidOldHag · 13/11/2021 13:01

I remember them from the 60s/70s

One of my aunts used to have them - alternated pale and dark pink. I thought they were dead posh!

My friend had pale blue loo roll to match the bath, in a dolphin themed bathroom. Pink in the downstairs

ShowOfHands · 13/11/2021 13:04

OMG the drain behind me! Lewis McFarlane tripped me up once and I smashed my face on it and had to go to hospital. I'd entirely forgotten about it. I've just had such a vivid flashback!

BeaucoupFish · 13/11/2021 13:12

@ShowOfHands

Aaaaw so cute and very lucky it didn’t rain

MadisonAvenue · 13/11/2021 13:18

That is fabulous ShowOHands!

I was only thinking of coloured tissues last week! I ran into Home Bargains for a box of tissues and they only had the square Kleenex boxes, for a brief moment I wondered if they’d be coloured.

We mostly had white tissues when I was growing up but very occasionally my mom would push the boat out and buy coloured, usually in beige shades although my older sister had the lilac/purple shades in her room.

chesirecat99 · 13/11/2021 13:38

Coloured tissues were the standard in the 70s/80s. Trying to find white tissues was like finding coloured loo roll now. Except for the extra large "mansize" tissues, which only came in white Hmm

The normal boxes were random pastel shades but you could get fancy cube shaped boxes for twice the price that came with just 2 co-ordinating colours that alternated eg pink and lilac.

I thought I’d seen this, Tesco sell their own brand toilet roll in cream

Aww, gorgeous picture, Showofhands. 😍
Thankyou, Lucysmam, for starting this thread. Sometimes it's nice to indulge in a bit of random nostalgia about mundane things.

Wotagain · 13/11/2021 14:17

There must be something in the air, because I was only thinking about this exact same thing earlier this week, and yes, making paper roses of a weekend when playing round a friend’s house.
I can still remember how.

Wotagain · 13/11/2021 14:20

Off to set up an online Tesco account just so I can buy coloured tissues

TabithaTumbler · 13/11/2021 14:31

I saw that episode today!!! I immediately thought of this thread Grin

Love it ShowOfHands 😍

lucysmam · 13/11/2021 16:02

@ShowOfHands that's brilliant! It reminds me of some outfits we saw at a college open day, made entirely of paper. They were amazing!

Your memories have brought back some of my own from my primary school Christmas fetes. My favourite dinner lady (she'd be a very old lady by now) used to handmake pen pots from fuzzy fur, googly eyes and old tin cans. We were attached to a Church so made our own 'stained glass windows' for the hall's windows. We had one TA for the whole school & she was often in charge of the decorations and things; as well as everything else!

@latedecember1963 it's turned into quite a cosy thread 🥰

I buy peach bog roll from Sainsbury's.

BobaTea · 13/11/2021 22:38

Oh the joy of using coloured tissues! I'm always looking out for them but never find any. I can imagine my children's excitement if they see coloured tissues at home.
