Has anyone got anything from Brighthouse?

My corner couch is a mess. It was bought 2nd hand about 6 years ago. There's massive holes which have been sewed up by my, the arms are completely collapsed. And a few of the seats are collapsed inwards. It's embarrassing.

I cannot get any 'good' versions of credit (SCS/DFS 0% etc) as an ex ran up a load of credit in my name in my early 20s behind my back resulting in CCJS and all sorts.

I know Brighthouse is a rip off long term but I might get accepted?

I would buy 2nd hand again but about a year ago I tried and a 'non smoker' brought a couch that absolutely stunk of smoke and was stained, I had to turn them away and she got really angry. Plus it's quite a large lump sum before Xmas.

Any experience of Brighthouse please?

Everyone else has given some good ideas for how to source a new sofa.
I would also speak to CAB or a debt charity about the debts your ex ran up on your name. They're generally shit hot when it comes to financial abuse and fraud (which it sounds like your ex did(.

Our local council has a furniture shop it’s cheap and even free if you are in a very low income. They deliver too.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/11/2021 18:36

Sorry I meant so see if your council does the same.

Definitely try British Heart Foundation. I donated some furniture to them recently, bedroom furniture in really good condition, and they seemed to be quite selective about what they would take

mayblossominapril · 10/11/2021 19:08

As a purchaser of second hand furniture I find the charity shops quite pricey.
Join Freecycle and freegle and post a wanted ad asking for what you would like. In my area sofas come up fairly frequently.
Look on Facebook often they are fairly cheap and if it’s been on more than a week make an offer.
Try a local auction house, you can look before you buy, and most have online catalogues so you can see past sold prices and estimates. Most now do online bidding or you can leave a bid with 5e auctioneer. They are really helpful and will explain everything.
Some churches/communities have furniture projects where people donate unwanted furniture and it’s either sold cheaply or given to people who need furniture. You may have to do a bit of digging to find one locally. I would ask at your local CAB

sleepyhoglet · 10/11/2021 20:44

Don't do that. I've donated decent stuff to British heart foundation charity in the past and I think they will deliver. Also, although you won't get credit, ikea have some decent priced sofas.

HarrisMcCoo · 11/11/2021 10:00

We just got our sofa from IKEA this week and it's really comfy. Had to wait a month for delivery. Not bad compared to other furniture stores. Decent price, with washable covers.

HarrisMcCoo · 11/11/2021 10:01

Definitely agree that charity shops can be really expensive for furniture. Years ago we looked into a second hand sofa but decided against it for that reason.

I second your facebook pages. Today a number of people were gifting sofas. Sometimes on ours people will ask for stuff and the response is terrific.

I've gifted lots of things on there because I would much rather someone get the use out of things.

Getting nervous. He was supposed to be here an hour ago. Old couch is in garden and rained on badly so I hope he bloody shows up. Confused

Kids are enjoying the adventure of pizza sat on the floor though Grin

I bought a sofa from eBay and I loved it but I could do with a new one as with 4 kids it’s looking a bit worn out, I searched the internet to find out where I was from (it wasn’t mentioned on the listing) turns out it was from bright house! Was disappointed as I would have liked to buy the same one

Aliveandkicking23 · 12/11/2021 18:48

Please tell me that you didn't pay up front.

Good! If it doesn’t turn up, keep looking. Don’t worry about not having a sofa for a while! We’ve camped out on the floor for a week in between sofas - It was quite nice really! Reminded me of being young and lying on the carpet watching tv.
CouchWoes · 12/11/2021 20:43

They arrived. They're lovely.

And recliners too 😊
