Need a good quality winter coat in a petite length

Precis have stopped making clothing, which is a disaster for petite women as they were one of the only companies making good quality clothes.

I need a coat like the one in the attached photo. It needs to be around 70% wool because I sometimes go to very cold places. The one I have no longer fits me. I'll need a size 12 or 14.

It must be in a petite length. None of this "Why don't you just take up a hem" nonsense as it's not just about the length, it's about the positioning of the waistline and shoulder width and all that, and quite frankly if I'm spending £200 on a coat then it needs to fit properly in the first place.

Can anyone help please?!

Another recommendation for J Crew. They have nice wool coats and shipping and tax included at the checkout

I've also had luck with Maje and Sandro, not petites but seem to work for me.

@bizzey

Live that first coat linked...but ...why is a 5 ft 6" model wearing the petite range ?
I don't know for sure, but I think sometimes if they make the same one in a regular length, they just use the same photo instead of getting a petite model to model the petite one.

@CloverClove I had a look on La Redoute, and there's one coat I might've risked buying but they have sold out of sizes 10-16. Also it's a massive risk buying non-petite coats online because I just have no idea of knowing which ones will even vaguely fit. I wish I could just go into a shop and try it on.

I'm returning to this thread as I'm getting worried. I have about two weeks to find a coat. Please help!!!

In clothes I tend to wear size 10 tops and size 16 skirts, that's why I wear a lot of flared dresses and separates. I've tried one flared coat at Collectif but it totally swamps me as it's not really designed for petites, and all their other coats are made of polyester which won't be warm enough.

I've tried on several other coats recently - Ted Baker, Reiss, Joseph (!), a few other expensive places. None of them even remotely fitted because they're all "straight up and down" shaped. Even when I try a size 14 which is okay for my top half, it's a really bad look on my bottom half and the pockets hang open. I can't find anything that even remotely fits. I'll concede to getting alterations if it's something relatively straightforward like getting sleeves shortened, but any more shaping stuff and it's going basically involve remaking the whole coat.

There must be SOMEWHERE I can get just one coat that fits!!!

Have you tried Seasalt? They do nice wool coats and have a petite range. I’ve just got my winter coat from there (I’m 4ft 10ins).

tectonicplates · 29/11/2021 20:32

I have seen the Seasalt ones but none of them look right - they're so shapeless and I don't see how they'd fit both halves of my body, plus I really need a longer coat. Thanks for your suggestion though.

I'm still stuck! Please help!

Please help! The situation is getting quite urgent now. I've tried on a million coats and nothing even remotely fits. I did order one from Karen Millen petites but I had to send it back as it looked awful.

I'm also a petite hourglass, and I find Hobbs the best for wool coats. They usually have quite a range of different styles with good wool/cashmere content, and I can usually find something with enough waist-to-hip ratio to work - e.g. maybe this type of thing, though I don't know if it would be long enough for your purposes. I don't find that their shoulders are cut especially wide even in the non-petite range so there's no fit issue there, though I do sometimes have to take the sleeves up.

What about this? Maybe too straight cut? https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/durham-wool-blend-coat-navy/sty-u0015-nav?cat=C1S22_G2

I am trying to look for a petite waterproof coat and it is very difficult- clearly everyone that goes hiking has very long arms!
