Favourite Diptyque candle scent?

MilduraS · 07/11/2021 22:17

Which Diptyque candles are your favourites? I usually buy a Feu de Bois for December and Essence de JG as an occasional treat at other times of the year but I'm looking for some recommendations. If anyone knows of any other brand with the same level of scent and longevity recommendations are welcome for those too!

I have tried a few others but always go back to feu de bois to be honest

I like byredo bibliotheque and JM wood sage too.

PlinkPlankPlunk · 07/11/2021 22:49

I have tried so many other brands and wouldn’t say any are as good tbh. The closest would be Skandinavisk but they are very different scents to Diptyque.

I like different ones for different seasons - Roses is lovely in summer; Baies in autumn. Mousses (moss) is a really interesting earthy green one and they used to do one called Foin Coupe which was gorgeous; a sort of dry grass scent. I’m not describing it well!

The Christmas ones are always more expensive but they always do a pine one and it is always lovely

Oh I remembered a Jo Malone one when I was looking for an alternative to Diptyque Feu de Bois; the lady in the shop recommended Incense & Embres (or something like that) and it was nice - similar but a bit of a change

mobear · 07/11/2021 22:52

Baies. I would also recommend Byredo and Overose candles. I love the Skandinavisk scents but I didn’t find the ones I tried lingered as well.

piefacedClique · 07/11/2021 22:54

Inn be love Baies….. my absolute favourite of all candles. So many memories around that smell

altforvarmt · 07/11/2021 22:56

Feu de Bois is my default go to candle in winter, but I also really like Patchouli and Opopanax. The patchouli one is not subtle though, you have to really like the smell of patchouli.

Neom candles also have a really good hot throw. Cire Trudon too, but that's getting into the very spendy category.

I was sad that the Laura Mercier roasted chestnuts candle disappeared, because it was amazing.

MilduraS · 08/11/2021 08:35

Baies is on the list now. Love the sound of biblioteque from Byredo. Has anyone tried Diptyque's Narguile or Oud?

I bought a set of 3 Neom candles through QVC. They smelled nice up close and unlit but I couldn't smell much when using them. I wonder if they were duds. I was so disappointed as they were more affordable but still not cheap.

I've never tried Jo Malone candles. The perfumes have always been a bit watered down so I worried they'd be like the Neom candles.

Oh Narguile is gorgeous, one of my favourites ,
Another one is Benjoin, one of their earliest candles, very understated.

But nothing beats Cire Trudons for winter/holiday season, they come up with the most wonderful combination of scents , Fir is divine and it’s back this year, Want to go and try the other Christmas adtions now!

MilduraS · 08/11/2021 13:21

Oh don't tempt me with Cire Trudon the candle jars are beautiful but they're even more expensive!

Glad Narguile is a winner. I went to the Diptyque store years ago and remember everything being lovely but it's so difficult to choose when you have a budget and can't afford to buy one of everything Grin

Figuier

BitsAndBaubles · 08/11/2021 17:15

I love ones from Can To Candle, the winter orange is gorgeous and the advent candle is great fun www.cantocandle.com/product/advent-candle/

Firesidefox · 08/11/2021 17:19

The fig one is my fave.

@OP I also bought some Neom candles cheaply via QVC but mine were lovely.

I was given a Cire Trudon one last year and didn't think it was all that tbh. I mean it was fine, but not worth stupid money and no better than cheaper ones.

garlicandsapphires · 08/11/2021 17:24

I’m falling out of love with my feu de Bois. I love some of the St Evals winter ones like embers but they don’t do bigger versions of it.

Firesidefox · 08/11/2021 17:27

Agree the St Evals ones are nice but I like the glow that comes from a glass jar rather than tin like the St Evals ones I've had before.

OompaLumpaLabrador · 08/11/2021 17:38

Feu de Bois is my favourite. I got a limited edition called Insolite from Liberty. It’s winter spiced but has a sharp edge. I can’t work out if I love it or hate it.

Baies is gorgeous but, I think, summery. We have Tubereuse in our bedroom. I’m planning on getting Pomander for Christmas. I like Diptyque very much, to the point of possibly having a bit of a problem….

onemouseplace · 08/11/2021 17:53

My favourite is Basilique, but I think it must have been discontinued years ago as I've never been able to find it again.

MilduraS · 08/11/2021 17:56

I love the smokey note of Feu Des Bois and the incense notes in others for winter but I loathe Christmas spices! I really don't like Christmas spiced cookies/cakes/ mince pies and have had to eat them out of politeness so often that I can't face the smell.

OP posts:
MilduraS · 08/11/2021 18:02

@OompaLumpaLabrador I forgot about the tubereuse one! It's always been the common note in perfumes that smell terrible on me so I thought I didn't like the smell. Then I smelled that candle at a friends house and it completely changed my mind.

PearlAsylum · 08/11/2021 18:11

My favourite is Tubereuse.

I've also bought a candle from Coreterno, purely for the jar Blush. It does have a good level of scent though. I first saw them on Wolf + Badger, but it was much cheaper to buy directly from Coreterno and ship from Italy Hmm

BitsAndBaubles · 08/11/2021 18:18

That jar is beautiful

garlicandsapphires · 08/11/2021 20:07

What's the best Christmassy Diptyque please?

queenofarles · 08/11/2021 20:22

loathe Christmas spices! I really don't like Christmas spiced cookies/cakes/ mince
If you hate spices , I suggest Solis Rex , the scent of Versailles wood floors , it’s strange sounding
But the only way to describe it , if you’ve ever been to the hall of mirror in Autumn or winter and it’s freezing and you get this faint , woody warm scent ? No idea how they captured that exact moment Grin

mobear · 08/11/2021 20:23

Flocon and Sapin, the two current Christmas limited editions are lovely. Otherwise I’d recommend Feu de Bois for Christmas.

bestseason · 08/11/2021 20:32

I was recommended this brand by a friend and have bought each scent as they are very different and utterly divine.

I'm usually le labo or neom.
