Folkestone or Margate?

We’ve finally decided to leave London and after quite a few visits and discussions, have decided on either of these two. The trouble is I can’t quite decide. There’s more choice of house for our budget in Folkestone, but I feel Margate is a bit ‘groovier’? We’ve two children, not yet at school, one with potential SEND so need to factor that in too. Anyone know either/both towns and have wise words to share?
Thanks.

100% folkestone over Margate. It’s had a lot of money poured into it recently for regeneration, especially the harbour arm which is an absolutely fantastic space, full of independent eateries. You have Sunny Sands beach which is small but lovely, the Warren which is wilder and loved by dog walkers, the Leas Coastal park is beautiful and has great play areas for kids. There’s a small cinema in town, there’s a huge arts scene, and it’s only about an hour away from London by train. It’s within easy reach of Canterbury, Dover, Ashford, Maidstone, Dymchurch (where there is a huge sandy beach and a small amusement park), Rye, Camber and Hastings. There are lots of empty shops in folkestone High Street but there’s no end of restaurants. Hythe has a beautiful canal and if you head to West Hythe (15 mins or so from Folkestone) you can walk down the canal path which also runs down the back of Port Lympne Wild Animal park so you see antelopes and giraffes on your walk. There is so much to see and do in and around folkestone. The east end is a bit rougher and parking is difficult (around Black Bull road and Canterbury Road) but overall folkestone is a great place to live

Hey….thank you for your help before. Sadly we missed out on Limes Road, we couldn’t offer the amount they wanted.
I wondered if you knew much about St John’s Road…..and also Shorncliffe Road. We’ve been hunting again after being away a lot of the summer….prices have got higher and nothing within Cheriton has come along. There are 2 lovely houses and unsure which area is best. Have ventured quite a few times to folkestone since but it’s spread out and unsure of everywhere still.
Would be great if you knew any more info! X

St John's Road is nice but nearer the east end of folkestone rather than Cheriton . Where abouts on Shorncliffe Road is the other house , it's quite long

The other one on the map seems to be near Shorncliffe crescent…….
Thank you for replying 😀

Well if you HAVE to choose between the two:
Folkestone.

I grew disillusioned with the South-East Coast and upped the sticks to move ooop North! So far so good.
