Violet, Sophia or Freya

Hi everyone, I'm expecting a girl soon and just wondering which of these names you prefer? Thanks

OP posts:
Pemba · 04/11/2021 13:04

Sophia is nicest I would say, although I prefer Sophie. Sophia is very popular though.

Not a big fan of Violet, unfortunately in English it sounds a bit like 'vile' or 'violent'. Prefer French 'Violette' or the Shakespearean 'Viola' - lovely and more unusual than Violet.

Freya is OK.

Violet or Freya

Sophia, it’s timeless, the others will date.

I love Violet, possibly prefer Viola!

I think Violet is a bit faddy atm and the name will date. My grandma was a Vi and I think would be very amused at its current popularity Grin I'd probably choose Freya, they're both long term popular but Sophia very much so and then you've got all the Sophies too.

ColinTheKoala · 04/11/2021 13:15

Sophia or Freya. Like a pp I prefer Sophie though. Freya Sophie would be nice.

I know a lot of people like "old" names like Florence, Betty, Violet etc but I really don't. Violet/Vi is a name for a different generation in my view.

ColinTheKoala · 04/11/2021 13:17

I also agree that it would work if Violette though.

luckylavender · 04/11/2021 13:39

Violet is a beautiful name. The other 2 are over used

Gardenlass · 04/11/2021 13:42

Why not Violaine? I knew one once. Pronounced Vee-oh-lain.

FuggyPidding · 04/11/2021 13:45

Freya

TheRealMrsJelly · 04/11/2021 13:55

Sophia, it's lovely and it's timeless, but all of them are very pretty names.

Gonnagetgoing · 04/11/2021 13:58

@Taoneusa - I’ve got a friend called Viola, it’s actually short for Wioletta which she told me she preferred Viola for!

Pemba · 04/11/2021 14:09

Is she Polish Gonnage?

Gonnagetgoing · 04/11/2021 14:55

Is she Polish Gonnage?
@Pemba - yes she is Polish.
Duckswaddle · 04/11/2021 15:01

Violet - so pretty.

StarShapedWindow · 04/11/2021 15:07

Sophia is my favourite

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 04/11/2021 15:10

Sophia for me. Freya is nice too but I really, really don't like Violet.

minipie · 04/11/2021 15:11

Freya

DoodleBelle · 04/11/2021 15:15

All pretty names. I like Violet best.

PlanetMadskull · 04/11/2021 15:17

Violet

RedWingBoots · 04/11/2021 15:19

Violet.

Lots of Sophias and Freyas around me.

junglejane66 · 04/11/2021 15:19

Freya reminds me of the WW2 German earlier warning radar system

Beautiful! I love the diminutive “Letta” as well. Gorgeous.

ILiedAboutBeingTheOutdoorType · 04/11/2021 17:31

Don't like Violet - reminds me of Violet Bueregarde (sp?) in Charlie and Chocolate Factory.
I think Sophia and Freya are both lovely pretty names, but I don't share weird MN obsession with being vehemently opposed to/snobbish about any name which is "popular".

Newhorizon21 · 04/11/2021 17:35
