So thoroughly depressing that yet another intelligent woman is reduced to what she wears. I’m really surprised by the Times, I expect this crap from the Daily Mail.

I don't have a sub to the Times so don't know what she's saying, but in general I don't believe enjoying clothes means you are stupid.

Fireside not at all!
I just wonder why they never do this to men in the spotlight. Must be frustrating. She’s a politician not a fashion icon as they say.

They don't do it to men because generally they all dress the same in dark suits and so it would be a boring feature. Michael Portillo had to leave politics before he could express his sartorial style. He wears it well but orange trousers would not be allowed in a male MP whereas female ones can wear leopardprint shoes.

If male politicians dress in an unusual manner - like Boris Johnson pretending to jog; David Cameron wearing black lace-up business shoes on holiday; or Michael Foot or Jeremy Corbyn at the Cenotaph they are photographed because it is interesting. Perhaps not as important as deep political thought or lack of it, but mildly diverting.

Very little about Liz Truss intrudes into my consciousness - certainly not her clothes. But other powerful women are known for their interest in clothes - Margaret Thatcher, Theresa May and Christine Lagarde
