How old is too old for trick or treating?

I think once you're in secondary school you're too old.

Loads Ans loads of 16 odd years old around here. Loads of effort made.. My nearly 16 year old has opted to stay home and hand out treats this year.

If they're dressed up, polite and not knocking the door too late in the evening I don't see why there needs to be a hard limit.

My kids have never been out, we have a Halloween party in the house instead.

I would say up to about 14ish is normal around here, although I really dislike it if they are all in a massive group of just teens and have properly gory/frightening/realistic costumes.

I can't believe a 19yo goes out trick or treating though, I would hate a grown man to come knocking on my door asking for sweets.

My ds is 20 and he and his friends are having a fancy dress party but they wouldn't dream of going out trick or treating, they all work, they can buy their own sweets and pay their rent, and bills and other things adults do that doesnt include mooching freebies off strangers

That said, I'll probably just leave bags of sweets outside as I did last year so it will save any of the more intimidating lot coming to the door and I won't really know who takes them.

My DSs last one was when he was 12. He took a friend and some little ones. He was probably pushing it at that age but everyone had a hoot and lots of candy!
