Recurrent nightmares about long-dead pets!

Does anyone else get these?

Last night I dreamt we were far away on holiday and had forgotten to arrange for someone to feed the cat. Cat in question died several years ago.

I also have a recurring dream where I discover either a filthy cage of starving guinea pigs in our childhood garage or the hamster I had in my teens clinging to life in its cage having been ignored for weeks. Obviously in real life they‘d be dead but they are always just hanging on. The worst bit of the dream is having to go in and look. I assume it’s my brain worrying about coping with stuff?!

Me too, I have similar nightmares every few months. It’s always about guinea pigs, and sometimes a few other rodents as well. They are living in horrendous conditions in a huge labyrinth of cages. Some are isolated on their own, some dead, malnourished, and loads of babies and pregnant ones. The guilt, distress, and panic feelings often lasts several hours after I’ve woken up.
We’ve had many pets over the years, all loved, cherished and well looked after although once we did have some unexpected babies that caused us some problems homing!
Funnily enough I’ve never had nightmares about cats although we’ve had many cats over the years.
Glad I’m not alone.

OMG, I thought it was just me. I jump awake in a panic that there’s some poor creature that I’ve neglected, starving to death in a filthy cage.

Well this is incredible, I honestly never expected so many others to have had these dreams.

I haven’t told DP because they’re not nice to describe and as others said, in a weird way it’s a comfort to know I‘m not the only one!

So now I have to work out what it is I am missing out on doing in life…

Omg I thought it was just me! I've had a recurring dream,on and off for about the last 10 years about forgetting to feed my beloved guinea pigs that I had as a child. It always upsets me and it's such a relief when I wake and realise that it never actually happened.

Bloody hell I am astounded at the number of posters on here who have had dreams about neglecting their guinea pigs. I thought it was just me.
