Off to Budapest on Friday.
6 nights. Me and my partner. Child free.

We've booked a couple of things, wine tasting and boat trip on Danube with dinner.

Any other recommendations? We're there for 6 nights so plenty of time! Including restaurants! Which spa baths you enjoyed- that type of thing. We like cafe and generally watching the world go by too- so any good ideas on that front also welcome!

I did search the forum already but posts are quite dated. Thank you!

Definetly the swanky cafes for a cake and coffee - there's nothing Hungarians like more than cake (my grandfather was Hungarian) and they're amazing at making them. I love Budapest, it's great just to walk around and take it in

Zeller Bistro for live music while you eat is fabulous
If you like a rooftop bar I recommend High Note Sky Bar for cocktails and Hotel Rum for brunch
We went in January and it was absolutely freezing so the tour bus was a welcome bit of warmth when we fancied it
You’ve obviously already booked your accommodation but for anyone else I highly recommend staying at the New York Palace. Budapest is so cheap that you get an incredible experience for so much less than you would pay in other European cities

*@ilovesooty do you mean you can tour the opera house, or actually go to the opera?

We had a great time!
We booked some excursions via Expedia:

  • wine tour
  • boat trip down the Danube
  • vampire tour around the castle grounds
  • Hungarian cooking course

We had an absolute blast! Thanks for the recommendations on here 😊

We were there in October & we LOVED Budapest. It's such a fantastic city to wander about & there's so much history.
Dh went to the Gellert baths (I'd been on another trip & didn't fancy it this time)
We did a self guided walking tour of the Jewish quarter & found the last remaining part of the ghetto wall (it's at the back of residential buildings in Jewish quarter )

We visited The House of Terror which was fascinating.

We found some of the guerrilla sculptures - a tiny diver with a key & a bear on what was the British embassy building- there's loads of them

We had afternoon tea in The New York Cafe & also had cake & coffee in Gerbauds

We visited ruin bars including the red ruin communist one

We wanted to visit the church cave under the castle but we ran out of time..
We'll definitely be back again
