My 11 year old is asking for make up for Xmas. I don't wear make up. so dont know where to start. I want her to have something very basic not to noticeable and won't effect her skin.

What does she want? Wanting make up to cover up your perceived flaws and make your normal features look “better” is a world away from wanting to create dramatic looks with bright eyeshadow etc.

Dd1 used to be “into” makeup at that age and she was full on dramatic. She did a lot of Halloween/horror special effects stuff copied from YouTube tutorials. She would create bruises or full on cartoon faces etc. She did do more conventional but dramatic eye makeup stuff too. Neutral lipgloss wouldn’t have cut it for her. On the other hand, someone who wants makeup to look prettier or more grown up is going to be unimpressed with an eyeshadow pallets with ochre and cerise and a bruise wheel.

Did is 11 and kids to do make up with her friends while on video call together. They'll tell each other what to do sometimes silly sometimes good. They have a blast then wash it off after. Absolutely no harm. I mean they've been getting face painted for years. Agree revolution is the best place to start. She doesn't have foundation but occasionally uses my dc cream (again not to go out). She might use a bit of eye shadow and lip gloss, maybe a touch of blusher if going to a school disco etc but never wears it day to day

Sorry to slide into this thread but could someone recommend suitable you tube videos to start with. What do your kids like? Dd is 12 and getting make up from revolution for Christmas and I’d like her to learn how to apply properly and have some fun with it!
