Is H&M boys 6-8 like a normal 6-7 or should I get 8-10 ?

My DS prob needs an age 7-8 or a generous 6-7 like Next does, so I can't work out what H&M size to get ? Any tips

I find H&M kids sizing quite slim, so if you need generous then probably a size up

snazzynamechangetiming · 11/10/2021 16:54

He's not chunky just don't understand the sizing being 6-8, it must fit one way or the other small like a 6-7nor big like a 7-8 ?

Its really annoying they've changed their sizing this way, on some items they have 6-7 and 7-8 but on loads its two years now and they're really difficult to figure out. If it helps I have a pretty big about to turn 3 year old, the 2-4 dresses I got her this summer definitely won't do next year, I got her a 4-6 sweatshirt and while its big its not ridiculously so, as in she has room in it rather than looking like she's wearing something that doesn't fit, so if you think he needs 7-8 I'd be inclined to size up.

I would say 6-8 is more like 6-7 in say M&S, they size pretty small

leakymcleakleak · 11/10/2021 16:58

(And for context she's just moved up to size 3-4 for all her other clothes from M&S, Next etc - she just about fits into the 2-4 H&M but I think anything I buy in future will be 4-6)

DownWhichOfLate · 11/10/2021 17:07

I find the sizes gigantic! 6-8 is far too big for my 7 year old. Don’t know if they’ll even fit at 8.

snazzynamechangetiming · 11/10/2021 17:23

@DownWhichOfLate what size would they wear from another brand then ? I don't worry about what age DS is because he's actually only 5 but tall.

I've just bought my very skinny 12 yr old 10-12 pyjamas. They fit his waist beautifully. Probably a bit short in the arm, but fine for night wear.
Also had to buy 12-13 trousers to get the length.

I agree, I have a younger one too. My DD and the 2-4 is more like 2-3, she's in 3-4 for other brands.

Its annoying. I have a 7 and 8 year old. The 6-8 is fine on the 7 year old. The 8 needs the 8-10 but it's big and he's tall.

If I were you I'd guess at 6-8

olderthanyouthink · 11/10/2021 19:00

H&M is a Scandinavian brand that works fairly well when you buy by height.

6-8yrs would be 122/128cm and 8-10yrs is 134/140cm, which is he closer to?

DD is slim but also short for her age, i ignore the age and look at the height. She's about 91 cm so 86/92 would probably fit her and 98/104 would be way too big on the width

DownWhichOfLate · 11/10/2021 19:18

It varies, but usually the correct age. What is it you are buying? If it’s tshirts I have some in age 6-8 so I could measure the chest for you (and sleeve length if you want) so you can get an idea of actual size.

Bloatstoat · 11/10/2021 20:18

My DS is 6, he's in 7-8 in Asda (George) and M&S, I find H&M 6-8 jumpers he had last year are getting a bit short on the sleeves so got an 8-10 hoodie recently from H&M which definitely has growing room but not ridiculously big.

proudwomansexmatters · 11/10/2021 20:18

My daughter is tall (114cm and she's just turned 5) and has been wearing 4-6 for over a year. She can still fit into them and is firmly in 5-6 everywhere else. I find h&m work well for tall kids

wendz86 · 11/10/2021 20:33

My daughter is 6 and wears 6-8. She’s normally in 7-8 for dresses / trousers (long legs).

Year6dramallama · 11/10/2021 20:39

My kids are usually bang on the ages in h&mash clothes. E.g when they're young 6 the 6-8 is a bit big, when they turn 8ish the 6-8 is getting small.

DownWhichOfLate · 11/10/2021 20:45

I’ve measured the tshirts. Across the chest is 14”; length is 19.5”; sleeve from where it joins to the tshirt body is 18”. Hope that helps!

snazzynamechangetiming · 12/10/2021 14:01

I've ordered online the 6-8 sweatshirts and some 6-7 joggers. Will report back next week 🤞 I hate returning stuff so hope it fits.

I find H&M kids stuff massive...my average sized 3 year old still fits into a 12-18 month T-shirt from there 😂
