Moving to Shrewsbury

As it says really. I have no ideas about areas. I've lived relatively locally for a long time, and have been often and know my way around, but nothing else.

I don't drive, so need to be relatively close to the centre(half an hour or so walking is fine) and I'm obviously looking to avoid areas that flood. I don't need schools, I'd just like a nice, quiet, friendly area. It's just me, and I don't currently work. I'm also looking for opinions on what it's like to live there, and what there is to do there, as I really have no idea what I'm doing
Thanks

@Blushingviolets Hi neighbour!!

Op you may struggle with a bungalow in budget, there aren't that many as it tends to be period properties or new build estates. I hope you do find something though it's a beautiful part of the country ☺️

Blushingviolets · 28/10/2021 19:49

I had a snoop on rightmove. There’s about 8 bungalows for sale the cheapest starts around £190000. I really hope you find something though, Shrewsbury is ace.

Blushingviolets · 28/10/2021 19:50

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango hey neighbour! Grin

LoveMySituation · 28/10/2021 20:37

It's amazing that both of you live in the same part of Shrewsbury, and have 'found' each other on this threadGrin are you going to meet up?!

@LoveMySituation maybe I’ll put a coded message on the local Facebook group 🤣

Fingers crossed for the bungalow.

LoveMySituation · 17/11/2021 16:34

Just wanted to update. Due to the most bizarre mix up by the agent, I didn't even get to see that bungalow, but I've now had an offer accepted on something else. Maybe even better more expensive. Thank you to everyone who gave me information and help

Love this! Fingers crossed it all progresses smoothly.

LoveMySituation · 18/11/2021 21:48

Thanks Blushing. I can't help thinking I should be feeling excited, but all I feel is nervous as it's such a lot of money to spend, and I'm concerned about whether I'll be able to get a job, I've never really had one before, and at 43 it seems late to start. But somehow, I'll have to

Congratulations! Shrewsbury is officially the best place in the world. All the best for your move and welcome to Shrewsbury Smile.

LoveMySituation · 20/11/2021 13:43

Thanks Not(I'm curious as to why you're not happy to help!) I'm interested as to why it's the best place in the world as well?! It seems a nice place, and it'll be good to be near water again, and to walk by the river

Oh the username is just a nod to my employer (big green supermarket).

It’s just a lovely atmosphere. The people are great, the buildings are gorgeous (most of them), there’s a great number of lovely independent shops restaurants and cafes and for the most part we’re fairly undiscovered so it’s not so touristy.

LoveMySituation · 22/11/2021 13:23

Wow, that's a ringing endorsement! I used to go there a lot when I lived in Ludlow to shop, and always liked it
