Has anyone else had the cold from hell?!

As the title says really. I was CONVINCED the I had the ol' rona, but negative PCR. It's the worst cold I have ever had, cough, temperature, pouring with snot and generally feeling like death. Anyone else?!

Yeah it was awful; I felt so manky. I was genuinely surprised when the PCR was negative!

Florencenotflo · 10/10/2021 19:36

Yep. Dd1 had a cough and a cold, 2 negative PCR tests. Seemed fine after a few days. Dd2 has had it for nearly 2 weeks, negative PCR test for her, but she's still coughing, grumpy, snotty etc although she could be teething as well, she has 2 big back teeth coming through.

I've had it as well, less snot but felt like death warmed up for about a week now. Also had a negative PCR.

DH hasn't had it but he's been testing daily with lateral flow tests, he was convinced we had covid, but 3 negative PCR's between us it definitely isn't!

Yes. Day 12 here. Coughing like a good ‘un still.

@Elephantsparade

Could it be flu? We have a bug in this house but this one seems to be characterised with nearly a week feeling very rough with a heavy cold and temperature, massively improving for 3 or 4 days then suddenly getting much worse again with a cough. So all had 2 pcrs due to the gap of 3-4days fine. The cough is in week 3 now
I've never had the flu but it just feels like an absolute asshole of a cold to me.

Me too! I was keeping my ass inside and self isolating and was planning for the ten days inside with my toddler and when I got the negative result I was like God damn

I’ve had it, it was nasty but happily quite short lived for me: started on Monday evening, unwell Tuesday and got a (negative) pcr, flattened Wednesday and Thursday, did a sort of days wfh on Friday but nearly better now. So it might not linger. Resting up really helped

MrsWorriedMother · 10/10/2021 20:14

DH had it and now DS and me have caught it.

Feel so poorly with it. Horrendous sore throat for a week, glands swollen and ear and jaw pain.
Now we are really snotty and just feel awful.

hartof · 10/10/2021 20:15

Yes. Had covid then 4 weeks later the horrible cold which then turned into a chest infection. Antibiotics finished, 17 days down the line and still full of catarrh.

Ifonlyidknownthen · 10/10/2021 20:16

My youngest just had this, was rough for 2 weeks almost and was off school a few days exhausted, we in the family all caught it more mildly. Had PCR tests and negative. A friend has just had it bad too, seems some people are low on immunity having hidden away for best part of two years and being hit with this big time.

namechangerrrrssss · 10/10/2021 20:18

DH has had it for the last few days and not getting any better. Not yet tested for Covid but think he'll have to.

Zazazaz · 10/10/2021 20:23

BBC news article yesterday indicating that the PCR test has been coming back negative after a positive LFT of late, particularly for people in the south west.

So it's quite possible that a lot of these long very grotty colds are in fact covid.

But also, there's every chance a lot of rotten bugs will go round this year because they didn't get the chance last year.

bettertimesarecomingnow · 10/10/2021 20:41

Yes all three of us
And then Covid

NekoShiro · 10/10/2021 20:42

PCR tests have been giving false negatives so maybe it was covid for some people? www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-58841259

doctorboo · 10/10/2021 20:42

👋🏽 It’s been round our house 😭 it’s been a long few weeks.

All the children had a mild fever, grotty snots, the hacking cough and sore throat with a dose of swollen glands in there too. All tested negative.
They then passed it on to me, I felt a bit shite and run down but suddenly it all ramped up and I was using numbing throat spray and strepsils alongside paracetamol; then the cough started and I felt like I’d been lamped. Yesterday’s PCR test was negative, and because I no longer have…bladder issues…when I cough, I’ll be back at work tomorrow.

Oh my gosh! I hadn't seen this. That's quite worrying.

Is that just negative PCRs following positive lateral flows though? I had negative for both so assume it's a cold rather than covid.

Same! Mine was negative for both

God that is a worry!

Timeisavirtue · 10/10/2021 21:57

I started it off but luckily only had the sore throat which was bad enough.....like swallowing a million razors, I then had the head pressure as I call it...luckily only lasted 4 days... DS 13 then got a runny nose which went and came back and has now turned to a blocked nose.... and dd9 got it the worse, she had the works which turned into laryngitis. Luckily she’s back to herself so back to school tomorrow after being off since weds. My mum now has it... she’s on.y had the same as me so far... we got off lightly..

MotherWol · 11/10/2021 11:01

We have it too - started with DD1 who had a cough, temperature, fatigue, then passed it to me and DD2. I have sinus pain, sneezing, a blocked nose and fatigue as well as a dry, chesty cough. I’ve burst a blood vessel in my nose from the sneezing and have been having nose bleeds! I honestly feel so rubbish and I’m so sorry for DD2 who’s 3 months old and very poorly with it. It’s day 5 and I hope it doesn’t last much longer. We’ve all had negative LFT and PCR tests.

BeagleBeagled · 12/10/2021 05:59

I am on week two of it. Not coughing as much but I have a really bad earache now. Feeling so run down.
