Roundabout question!

Because it's caused a lot of bickering and i drive over it twice a day and regularly have near misses. And it makes a change from parking Grin

You're approaching this roundabout. There are 4 exits, and you're taking exit 2 which is at 11 on a clock (I marked the exit with a red arrow)
Which lane would you use?

There is a sign for the roundabout as you approach which just shows the exits and doesn't state left turn only or anything vaguely relating to exits

Roundabout question!

@Wtfdoipick

After seeing the photo of the sign left hand lane. The straight ahead clearly means the 3rd exit and yes village centre would class as local traffic. We have a couple of roundabouts like this near us and always the first 2 exits are left hand lane 2nd 2 are right
I agree with this.
FatFredsFriedEgg · 02/10/2021 15:22

@NotMyCat

Yeah to clarify village centre is the lane. For what is not a village, or a centre in the slightest Grin

Looking properly I know the roundabout lol. Picture it differently, you've got Tom benson way crossing tag lane, you're turning from tom Benson way onto tag lane, the straight ahead is the continuation of Tom benson way, the roundabout is slightly offset due to being able to fit it in when they built it, turning onto tag lane (2nd exit) is left. I turn right onto tag lane the other way.

Personally I'd go with which lane had the shortest queue

whizzinaround · 02/10/2021 15:32

That's appalling signposting /road marking. No wonder there's often near misses! Is there no common sense left in the world?!

MurielSpriggs · 02/10/2021 15:33

If you are in the right-hand lane, and you can see people alongside or behind you in the left-hand lane are taking the exit you're aiming for, surely you just indicate left, slow down and if necessary stop, until you can exit without hitting anyone?

( And bollocks and a cheery wave to honkers and gesticulators )

NotMyCat · 02/10/2021 15:35

@FatFredsFriedEgg pushing it slightly to describe as a village centre Grin there's a dodgy shop, a chippy and a community centre. All of which most people avoid like the plague except the police

Without the arrows, I'd choose the left lane...as they're there, I'd do what I'm told and use the right

NeedNewGlasses · 02/10/2021 15:38

We have one like that near us. RH lane.

My friend always approaches unfamiliar roundabouts in the RH lane unless he's taking the first exit. He reckons rather he'll either be in the correct lane or the correct lane for going round again if not.

Yes. And if you're driving out of Tag lane (exit 4 in the OPs numbering) across to the continuation of the same road (OPs exit 2), IIRC it's not marked which lane to use and it's not really clear if you should treat it as straight ahead or right. So someone might be in the left lane who'd come from there (though of course that's not a problem for the OP as she will be giving way to them anyway).

No, it's not what comes to mind when you think of a village but Tanterton was built as a village and that's the village centre. It may not be picturesque or to your taste but that's what it is.

Wtfdoipick · 02/10/2021 15:57

ErrolTheDragon we don't get road markings :(

I would use the left hand lane due to leaving the right hand free for tom benson way as the more major road . Personally I've never forgiven them for closing off the end of lightfoot lane.

AlexaShutUp · 02/10/2021 16:01

@DynastyBarry

If I knew the roundabout and the road markings , the right lane. If I was a visitor to the area and traffic was obscuring the road markings, I'd choose left.

There's one like it here where visitors don't realise until nearly on the roundabout. At rush hour they have to turn left as the traffic doesn't allow movement across lanes.

This.

It's obviously the right lane because of the road markings, but if I couldn't see them, I would use the left lane instead.

IsleofRum · 02/10/2021 16:03

@NotMyCat

Should add it quite often queues so you can't always see the road markings and they're the only markings that give you a clue (the sign as you approach doesn't) I do have a reason for asking Grin and I promise I'm not a shit driver!
It's so frustrating if there are no signs showing what lanes are for what routes. Grrrrr
HalzTangz · 02/10/2021 16:07

You take the straight on lane, the first lane is left turn only

Lucked · 02/10/2021 16:12

The round markings are identical to the roundabout outside my house so I would use right- however that roundabout only has two exits.

I would assume the left was only for the first exit

HalzTangz · 02/10/2021 16:13

I'd put a poster on back passenger window say look at the road marking cockwomble!!

HouseOfFire · 02/10/2021 17:40

@NotMyCat

I'm amazed everyone has said right lane so far You often can't see the road markings. I did mention it to the council. Their bright idea was to offer to put a straight on arrow. In both lanes Because that wouldn't go wrong Hmm
If they put a straight on in both , then you can use both
ErrolTheDragon · 02/10/2021 18:33

If they put a straight on in both , then you can use both

But then so could the cars which are going straight ahead to exit 3 , which would make things worse.

Maybe they should label the left lane

Left &
T'other Left
