Is it just me? Blush Not especially funny or clever. Is it unbritish to not love them?

OP posts:
WhiskeyNeverStartsToTasteNice · 23/09/2021 23:01

I absolutely can't bear their Saturday night show but found them quite funny when I watched I'm A Celeb for first time in donkeys' years last year (although obviously it's completely scripted)

cookiesandtea · 23/09/2021 23:01

Not for me. Plus one is a drink driver - just no.

ManifestingJoy · 23/09/2021 23:02

I must be very basic, I like them, their rapport is funny. It's the dynamic between them.

Lunificent · 23/09/2021 23:09

To me they’re a bit like James Martin: slaves to the autocue.
I respect them for being proficient at what they do but I don’t find them interesting or entertaining, myself.

wellards · 23/09/2021 23:15

Are they that good that they dominate presenting? not at all.

It confuses me we produce brilliant comedy eg peep show & this country but the standards for presenting is dire.

NigellaSeed · 23/09/2021 23:16

Grew up watching smtv. Not really seen them in anything else.

Fond memories of Dec screaming at children "it's got to rhyme!!"

jollygreenpea · 23/09/2021 23:17

Even if they didn't appear on tv they would still win the award they have won for the last 20 years.

Catherine Tate won but Robbie Williams was handing the prize out and he wanted to give it to A and D so they won!

NiceGerbil · 23/09/2021 23:20

How about pj and Duncan?

My god the paintball incident....

They're part of the furniture..a lot of people grew up with them!

They are shit now though tbf.

FurrySlipperBoots · 24/09/2021 00:40

@Sudokuzebra

I'm not saying he shouldn't be allowed to WORK again, just that he shouldn't be allowed to be a presenter on national TV anymore. Especially as it's always family shows and he's got this 'squeaky clean' image. What sort of message is it sending out having him bouncing around on the TV again like nothing happened? That drink driving is no big deal? That you can get away with it not affecting your career? That if you have the right connections you're above the law?

Wincarnis · 24/09/2021 03:21

I also don’t get why they are so popular. Not funny, not original, not particularly talented, yet they win endless awards……

ISpyCobraKai · 24/09/2021 03:27

I like them on I'm a Celebrity, I think they're funny, so shoot me now.

the80sweregreat · 24/09/2021 06:57

Dec was in the radio being interviewed about ten years ago and he seemed shocked at how much he is worth! Must be even more now.
He did say that buying his parents a home outright was one of his biggest achievements, so he isn't all bad, but they are worth so much money between them.

BogRollBOGOF · 24/09/2021 07:15

I thought their finest moment was in Love Actually... "Ant or Dec"
Not my thing.
I do remember the car going under the truck on Biker Grove though Grin

TroysMammy · 24/09/2021 07:21

I don't get them either and I refer to them as The Thrush Duo. I'll let you work it out.

GoodnightGrandma · 24/09/2021 07:22

I’m not a fan either.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/09/2021 07:24

i only watch them in Im a celebrity, and they are good and funny in that.
i dont watch them in anything else,

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/09/2021 07:25

did he hurt someone in the drink driving?

if not then of course people can work again!

DarlingFell · 24/09/2021 07:25

Ant or Dec are painfully unfunny and my toes curl seeing them on TV. They used to be funny but that was a long time ago (and I was younger and my comedic standards were lower).

bonbonours · 24/09/2021 07:26

@IWanderedLonely

Never watch them. Couldn't tell you which is which.
Me too. I love it in Love Actually when Bill Nighy calls them "Ant or Dec" 😁

It's a Sun Link so I'll sum up.

Ant was twice the legal limit.
He hit 2 cars.
In those cars were 2 families with 2 kids between them.
A 3 year old girl went to hospital for treatment.
A 9 year old boy got so shaken he thought he was dying, luckily he was physically ok, can't say about mentally.

Ant got fined £86k, sounds a lot and is one of the highest fines ever handed down for drink driving, but in reality it's around 0.14% of his reported net worth.

BabyYouKnowMyHandsAreDirty · 24/09/2021 08:01

This is the second, possibly third Ant and Dec thread I’ve seen in the last few weeks. I didn’t used to mind them when I was younger but I just don’t find them that entertaining anymore. And the drink driving thing, unforgivable, no time for anyone that does that.

MatildaIThink · 24/09/2021 08:06

I have never "got" then, I don't find them funny or entertaining, it always looks like the little one is stuck with the other one. They present dull and purile programs, how the hell have they won best presenters for years in a row?

BabyYouKnowMyHandsAreDirty · 24/09/2021 08:17

Look at the ‘competition’.

Deathraystare · 24/09/2021 19:18

Cannot stand them Like a couple of unfunny toddlers.

Phyllis321 · 24/09/2021 19:21

They were in a pub I was in years ago and I remember thinking they were both really small.
