Broken ankle

Hi all. Hope everyone is well. I am currently one week (tomorrow) into my broken ankle with a 5 month old. Luckily my parents are retired so they pick me up each morning when my husband goes to work so that the baby isn't stuck with me! I've been told I can't weight bare (bear?!) On it, am wearing one of the velcro boots, and it's driving me mad not being able to do anything and the paracetamol not touching the pain.

I have a patterjack who seems to have entered himself into a show jumping competition and is using my ankle as practise. Unfortunately he isn't very good and I feel I won't have an ankle left soon.

Just hoping for conversation, funny stories, own stories about broken ankles to let me know it gets better and when.. Just anything really!

@ThePontiacBandit so sorry, I did not get a notification for your reply!

How's the ankle doing now? I wish I'd read your message about the weaning off haha I was at the clinic yesterday and the consultant just said I could go without the boot now.. Been shopping around Wigan today for most of the day bootless! But with a limp!

I didn't do anything last weekend, and have nothing planned this weekend, although taking my 6mo to a little Halloween party tomorrow morning 🙂 you?

Can you use a knee walker? I found mine a godsend after a broken foot, but it depends if you can put weight on the shin.

Indie that’s good progress! Maybe wear it on and off until you can walk without the limp?
I was told for “wean off” within a couple of weeks, the reg didn’t want to give me a boot at all I think, I’m still trying to walk to and from the bathroom for my shower without it. I’m getting better. I can do short distances with one crutch and the stairs. My biggest concerns at the moment are the pain is still bad, struggling to reduce my painkiller dose, and my knee is weak, my knee keeps “slipping”. I feel like the muscles around it are weak and it’s not secure in the joint. It is not pleasant when it goes! crummyusername I looked at a knee scooter but my knee was injured and I’m not sure it would be a good idea in my circumstances.

@ThePontiacBandit yes, I'm going to see how it is tomorrow after so much walking today. I've kept the boot to wear whilst I'm walking down the stairs. It's good to be able to properly get on the floor with the baby though to help him sit up as he's at the stage where he is just about doing it but a little wobbly! Ive had to rely on others for that since it happened!
