My lovely boss ❤️

The last 18 months have been incredibly tough; I work for a small company (not in the UK) of only 20 employees and we've struggled through the pandemic. This summer has been stressful with staff on long term sick, problems with suppliers and subsequent soaring costs. Financial support from the government has been inconsistent for both employees and companies.

I'm going on holiday tomorrow (budget break!) so today was my last day. My boss quietly handed me an envelope this morning and said 'Thank you for all your hard work over the summer, buy yourself a drink at the airport'. There was €100 inside, I nearly cried Blush It might not sound like a lot of money to many on here but it will make such a difference to my holiday. And being appreciated means so much after a horrible year 😊

@chesirecat99

Even if she were in the UK, *@MaybeAMoaner*, it might have been a personal gift from the boss rather than from the business...
Exactly
Saladovercrispsanyday · 20/09/2021 21:09

I don’t think there’s any “maybe” about it!!

Saladovercrispsanyday · 20/09/2021 21:10

@PresidentJoey

It was definitely a gift from my boss, a thank you. I've been on my knees this year trying to manage a team that's overworked and under resourced. I had to deal with staff threatening to walk out and another having a mental breakdown. It's literally been the year from hell.
Although his focus could be on addressing your work load and recruitment!!
AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 20/09/2021 21:30

OP ignore any negative old moaners there are ALWAYS people on here who just can't be happy for anyone, are never satisfied or just hate men altogether. I'm surprised nobody has accused him of fancying you yet or called him a manipulative abuser 🙄

A great boss and a really lovely gesture - enjoy it and have a great holiday! X

@MaybeAMoaner

I’m saying this light heartedly But Under UK payroll rules that would be a big no no. Need to pay tax on that gift Grin

Killjoy, your username is completely appropriate Grin

Have a wonderful break OP, and make sure to enjoy those drinks on your boss, it's so lovely to feel appreciated at work, given the amount of time we spend there.

I can’t see where OP said the boss is male. Did I miss that?

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 20/09/2021 22:42

That is lovely! My boss did something similar for me a few years ago when I was absolutely brassic. I'd booked & paid for a holiday with the DC months earlier, then had all sorts of unexpected bills just before we were about to go, and I was dreading the whole holiday because I couldn't see how I would be able to pay for us to do anything. The day we were leaving, he paid £300 into my bank a/c with the reference 'ice cream fund for the kids'. It saved the holiday, and probably my sanity.

Have a wonderful time, and sip every cent of that well-deserved bonus!

The op didn’t say her gender either
But a number of posters have said “she”
Why didn’t you pick them up?!

TomPinch · 21/09/2021 06:33

Did your boss ask you where are you going with your fetlocks blowing in the wind? Wink

Nofacedetected · 21/09/2021 06:36

Oh god stop peeing on a nice thread!

Enjoy your holiday, OP!

Burnamer · 21/09/2021 07:22

@Saladovercrispsanyday because this is mumsnet so I think it’s reasonable that we assume most posters will be female.
Why are you assuming the boss is male?

Not necessarily.

There is a little loophole for "personal gifts" Wink

Why are you assuming the boss is male?[/quote]
Because the fact is a higher percentage of men have managerial roles

So similar to your logic
Was my logic

sandgrown · 21/09/2021 07:31

What a lovely gesture . I am sure it is well deserved. Enjoy your holiday x

Saladovercrispsanyday · 21/09/2021 07:51

Having read how horrific your time has been

Overworked
Under resourced
Staff walking out

£100 seems paltry op

Burnamer · 21/09/2021 08:01

@Saladovercrispsanyday accepting the status quo and perpetuating that inequality doesn’t help any of us.

I wasn’t looking to “help” in my post

Deathraystare · 23/09/2021 09:52

Enjoy your holiday and your 'spends'.
