McDonalds need to reevaluate their services

Took ds to McDonalds for a treat tonight as dh and dd are off on a camp, we don't go that often maybe every couple of months if that.
It was pandemonium!!
Had to circle the car park 4 times to find a spot (never had to do that before!) expecting it to be rammed when I got in there, there were over half of the tables free, however, it was packed full of deliveroo/just eat drivers picking up orders, there had to be over 20 of them, so that's the reason I couldn't park! The poor kitchen workers just couldn't cook the food quick enough. I just don't think that the McDonalds restaurants are set up to deal with an extra ordering source, I've always noticed that when the drive through is busy, that the restaurant side suffers, but if you Chuck the online orders in to the mix then it's just chaos! We had to wait about 15 mins, not too bad considering (burger was cold though) but the system just doesn't work. The last time I went (in summer) we had to wait 20 mins and I had to send back two chicken burgers as they were still frozen in the middle (more fool me for going again I guess!). It's all well and good being able to order your Maccas for delivery, but it means that those that choose to visit the restaurant get a really poor service.

Took ages for our three coffees to turn up
This morning. As PP have said, it's all delivery drivers.

whynotwhatknot · 17/09/2021 22:35

Some people dont drive so not lazy-but it has taken over from visiting it seems

DobbleDobble · 17/09/2021 22:36

I agree op - Macd has ruined itself here.
My last 4-5 trips to differing macd over past 6 months has resulted in having to wait in a large mob of impatient deliveroo drivers, no masks, hassling the staff for their orders.
In one Mac d deliveroo drivers were seated everywhere around the store and regular customers couldn’t even find a place to sit, it’s like drive in or dine customers don’t matter anymore.
I can only guess since they went online with the apps and more people at home, teens having more money in their pocket it’s created this pandemonium .I have now switched back to wimpy which is local and far better burgers etc

EvenRosesHaveThorns · 17/09/2021 22:49

Well, just stop going to a place with shit ethics and factory farming.. jus saying

Thecomfortador · 17/09/2021 23:09

Bil had two orders cancelled after an hour each of waiting this evening. We offered to go to the drive through for them as we happened to be visiting. Waited a good 20 minutes in the queue of about 7 cars.

I took my two little ones in to sit down a few weeks back, waiting so long for food they were getting restless. That said the staff are really pleasant and helpful with young children, can't complain about their customer service skills. But yes, there are better food options out there. Just an easy treat sometimes.

Thecomfortador · 17/09/2021 23:12

In fact, from checking the text message trail, it took 30 minutes from joining the queue to collecting the food. Fast food indeed.

QuestionableMouse · 17/09/2021 23:16

The older restaurants absolutely aren't set up for delivery. Believe me, the staff hate it just as much as you.

The new ones are being built with it in mind but the older ones simply don't have the space. Also not helped by the menu getting more complicated so more stock to store.

McDonald's have no control over the drivers unfortunately so while we can ask them not to park in stupid places or to comply with what we ask them, they often refuse. All we have for leverage is cancelling their order but then the customer suffers. Most days my store does more delivery orders than sit in!

Stopsnowing · 17/09/2021 23:17

Even my dc who was a big fan has said never again. The delivery people park up all over the pavement, they take up tables, and you wait for 20 mins to get a burger. I tried using the app so I could order in advance and arrive to pick it up but it won’t activate the order until you are on site. They say they cook to order. Rubbish. Years ago I worked at McDonald’s and they had a calling system where they always kept a few of each of the popular items and it was someone’s job to work out how many to keep on the go and to throw away any which were there too long. So you ordered and got your food at the same time. As it should be in a fast food outlet.

Stopsnowing · 17/09/2021 23:19

Oh and their drive through is not a drive through. It is a drive up. Order. Go and park and wait for someone to bring it.

QuestionableMouse · 17/09/2021 23:20

@FelicityBeedle

If you want hot food (and slightly quicker I think because it doesn’t get given to the delivery drivers) customise your burger and fries, ask for no salt on the fries and extra salad or no gherkins or something. Much fresher
Customising your burger will make no difference - they're all assembled to order anyway.

And please don't order fries with no salt unless you genuinely need them - it's a huge pain as we have to empty a section of the fry station, wipe it out and then use that for the no salt fries. It just makes life harder for the staff and believe me, it's shit enough job doing fries at the best of times!

That all changed when they brought Experience the Future stores in a few years ago.

No burgers are held fully assembled. The parts are held for a short time and each burger is made fresh.

Also most stores still have partitions in kitchen which means less space and less staff so it just takes longer.

Insidelaurashead · 17/09/2021 23:23

I'm one of the lazy rotters who ordered a mcdonalds tonight via ubereats. I'm in the middle of a massive fibromyalgia flare and the brain fog cleared enough for me to realise if I ordered food I could actually eat tonight. I know OP wasn't suggesting people shouldn't order for home delivery but others were and y'know, it's not always laziness

Lindy2 · 17/09/2021 23:34

I don't go to McDonald's particularly often but when I did go a few weeks ago I found the crowd of delivery drivers quite intimidating actually.

I had to squeeze past them when I would have preferred some social distancing - particularly as there were no masks being worn. I also felt that I was out of place actually being a customer waiting for my own food and getting in the way of all the delivery people. I felt pretty uncomfortable.

QuestionableMouse · 17/09/2021 23:40

I've felt the same as a staff member - speak to someone and the staff can ask the drivers to shift.

Percypigg · 17/09/2021 23:43

Are they able to serve milkshakes now?

HemanOrSheRa · 17/09/2021 23:53

My son works at Maccy d's. He absolutely loves it. They pay well - he's 16 and gets £7.50/hour, they fit his shifts around his college timetable and their training programme is spot on. He works at one of the busiest stores in the south west - macdonalds are building a new delivery only store close by.

Witsended · 17/09/2021 23:54

we went the other day and couldn't park in a click and collect bay as all the delivery drivers were parked in them

whynotwhatknot · 18/09/2021 00:01

The drivers shouldnt be sitting at tables or taking up spaces they need to get on top of that

drspouse · 18/09/2021 00:04

One in the next town is next to a specialist school and a friend's DS goes there. They keep parking over the gates and blocking her in/out.

FelicityBeedle · 18/09/2021 00:05

@QuestionableMouse
I’m sorry I didn’t know that about the fries! I have to admit I don’t order no salt (I like them cold cos I’m a freak) but had read it on the internet as a ‘hack’

blessedbethechocolate · 18/09/2021 05:54

I had the same in my local pizza express the drivers were blocking the door so we couldn't get in to get a table. Deliveroo & Uber eats have only just come to my area (could have done with it in lockdown) and as most of the restaurants are small there is no room for the line of drivers trying to get in. We don't have a local McDonald's so no idea what they are like but the KFC across the road was packed with them.

HungryHippo11 · 18/09/2021 06:08

@roarfeckingroarr

McDonald's as a treat... 😐🤨
Get over yourself.
DobbleDobble · 18/09/2021 07:13

But it could be a treat for their family, children, something that’s only done occasionally, or it could be it’s money out of a very tight budget, so is considered a treat . We are not discussing the food choices , we are just discussing Mac Donald’s as a business.

Kanaloa · 18/09/2021 07:20

We never have this issue at MacDonald’s - I find them ridiculously efficient and the food always hot. We don’t eat meat though so do tend to wait longer as there are never veggie wraps ready! Maybe delivery isn’t as busy at mine.

I do find it a huge issue at our local Costa. If you go in they’ll be doing a big online order but they’ll take your order and let you pay without telling you you’ll wait forever because they’ll faff about making 6 toasties for a waiting order. After waiting ages I eventually just said excuse me can I just have my money back and they said yes. It had been almost 15 minutes just standing there waiting for a hot chocolate. I never complain or demand refunds but I didn’t even want the drink anymore. I think it would work better if they had staff for online orders plus staff for in store orders.

Bluntness100 · 18/09/2021 07:23

McDonald’s is predominately a franchise, so this is just the local franchisee not managing properly.
