How often do you decorate?

Not a TAAT but inspired by another thread I was just wondering how often people decorated.

We have lived in our house now for 8 years and we've only decorated 2 rooms (and that was because we didn't like them). The whole house had been painted before we moved in so I know it was fresh back then.

People are saying about wear and tear but we don't seem to have much so haven't done anything, just wondered if we're lazy 🤣

Every 3-4 years I’d say.
We didn’t decorate anything when we moved in because it had been done to sell the house and was all magnolia. Boring but liveable. We’ve basically knocked down the entire house and rebuilt it around ourselves since we lived here, it was slow progress but lived here 13 years now and every room has been done and redecorated at least once. We chose colours for the house and they just get redone the same colours except the dds rooms, they choose different colours. Ds just keeps his the same, he’s quite uninterested!
But our house seems to get marks all over, we’re a family of 5 and usually have people in and out permanently so it’s a very busy high traffic house, it needs doing and keeping on top of.
We get decorators in, neither of us cba and want a decent job doing of it, we are both slapdash and hate the prep and faff of cutting in, masking, washing brushes etc. During lockdown we did the halls, stairs and landings, it was torturous and we hated every part of it Grin

Our tiny hallway changes colour frequently- probably every 3 years as is quick to do, but floor not changed for 15 years. Kitchen is white so will sugar soap sand and paint often - again about every 3 years, it gets really tired looking and is easy to do as same colour in ceiling.
Bedroom hardly ever - moved here 16 years ago, repainted it then and again about 5 years ago. Living room about every 8 years, but that’s repainting, not replacing flooring or furniture (because they still look good).
DC rooms a bit more often - just get too much wear and tear and blu-tac! About every 5 years (again, not carpet and furniture, but curtains and bedding).

Been here 10 years, decorated 2 rooms so far.
The only thing I hate more than the state of the walls is doing anything about it Grin

We live in our old house 15 years and never did anything big like the bathroom or kitchen but did repaint it all white. It was like something out of changing rooms when we moved in though, each room had multiple bright clashing colours. We've been in our current house 4 years and have decorated about half the rooms (but not done the kitchen or bathrooms yet, kitchen is lovely though and was recent when we moved in, probably needs a repaint now). Still got e.g. marks on the wall in our bedroom where the previous owner had a shelving unit attached. I want to do it slowly and any new furniture will be good quality, we have everything we 'need' and I still love everything we have but e.g. we needed a new full size bed for our youngest.

We’ve been here for 14 years and just last year re-decorated the last room. None have been done twice but I guess we may start that now. I do try to decorate in a timeless style instead of fashionable and we don’t give the house a hard time, it is in good nick.

I am thrilled to hear I am posh! Our home is nice, clean and comfortable but not a show home. I prioritise holidays over decorating.

We moved in 4 years ago. Everywhere had been freshly painted in magnolia just before we bought it but I hate magnolia so we redecorated the whole house within about 3 months of moving in.
Since then the living room and dining room have been repainted again (same colour) as it was looking grubby. We have just had a new bathroom and en suite so they have both been repainted. We turned the playroom into a home office when it was clear WFH was going to last a long time so redecorated in there, and DD1’s bedroom has been redecorated. Our hall, stairs and landing need a refresh so will do that next.
So every 3-4 years I guess.

@Chewbecca I found that comment hilarious- if being lazy makes me posh then that's just so weird 🤣
