Tinnitus pity party

Had this infuriating condition for nearly a year. Coping better generally but sometimes I get days when all I want to do is scream. I know there are worse things and it's not life threatening but it's just too much sometimes. Anyone else have this? Any words of wisdom or positivity?!

Thankfully I'm not feeling as dark about it as I was but I do feel very annoyed with it most of the time. I hope the annoyance goes away with time and it bothers me less. Maybe it might even go one day.....

It is fine to be annoyed with it. 9 years in I am still annoyed when I have to turn the radio or TV on so I have background noise, or if I can't concentrate on something at work as I am thinking about it again.

The annoyance will likely always be there but, with acceptance, hopefully soon it will stop becoming upsetting and you can do something to distract yourself quickly.

You have my sympathy OP 🌻 Background noise saves me, I even sleep with Netflix on. It's so much worse when I have to go without. I had to sit for 40 minutes in a silent waiting room this morning and it's made me so irritable!

That would be torture for me too!

I usually take my earbuds with me everywhere now, if I couldn't listen to music I would start talking to a random stranger nearby instead to distract me 🤣

Do you think it has had an impact on your quality of life? I feel like I never quite enjoy things as much as I would if I didn't have it. It's always there mithering me.

@awaynboilyurheid I didn't have long term tinnitus like some of the pp, I'd had it for a few months, so whether that makes a difference I don't know. And guessing there can be different causes of tinnitus.

It was about six years ago and from memory she explained it to me that there are a lot of tiny nerve endings that pass round through where your TMJ is and if they are ?compressed? this can cause tinnitus.

I used a practice called Hales Osteopathic based in Market Drayton (Shropshire).

As I mentioned earlier, think it took three sessions to shift it and, touch wood, I've never had it again.

@tpmumtobe hi! I have tmj! Im thinking mine is due to this! Thinking of going to a chiropractor! As if i move my head forward the ringing goes rrally loud! Also have a bad neck! So definitely connected! Xx is yours better xx

tpmumtobe · 11/11/2021 22:51

@Starrr123 Welcome to the TMJ crew! If only my other muscles were as strong as my jaw Grin

The thing that made the biggest difference to both my jaw pain and the tinnitus was this pillow, it honestly changed my life:

I also see an osteopath for my neck (which is part of the reason my jaw is so tight) which helps when I get a flair up. And I have a mouthguard to stop me destroying my teeth. Those three things usually get me through!

Starrr123 · 11/11/2021 23:13

@tpmumtobe thankyou! Im going to my chiropractor tomorrow!
I hope it goes! Its making me soooo anxious! My pillows are so rubbish!
Do you get ear pains, tenple pins neck pains and my teeth feel bruised xxx

Starrr123 · 11/11/2021 23:15

@tpmumtobe also pain on my cheek! Xxx

Starrr123 · 15/11/2021 17:17

@tpmumtobe does ur ear ring constantly when your having a flare? X

tpmumtobe · 15/11/2021 17:21

Yep I get all of that. When it's bad I get a ringing and a sort of dull whooshing sound. I get really sore temples, the pain goes sort of down into the side of my neck and shoulders and when I move my head it's all crunchy. I used to get teeth pain but now I wear a mouthguard every night so that's not so bad! My GP prescribed amytriptyline but I've not had the guts to try it yet, I manage ok with my magic pillow.

Starrr123 · 15/11/2021 17:23

@tpmumtobe thankyou for your reply!!!
Ive been prescribed it too but too scared! Apparently this can help with tinnutis!!! But i was on nortriptyline not sure if that caused it!!
When the ringing is better can u hardly notice it xx
