Wedding v Engagement Ring

Currently shopping for wedding rings and surprised at the cost of a simple band.

My engagement ring has stones on the band and I want basically the same ring but without the setting and the diamond in the middle

Got me thinking what is one is normally more expensive. What cost more your engagement or wedding ring

My wedding ring cost £119 and I'm guessing my engagement ring was a few hundred more than that.

My SIL's wedding ring cost £30.

It's as expensive as you want it to be.

My engagement ring, in 1998, was about double my wedding ring. My eternity ring, in 2001, was about the same as both previous rings together.

Engagement ring was probably 3x more expensive than my wedding ring, my wedding ring also has stones in it.

Engagement ring value £2600 and wedding band £700. The band was more expensive than I thought as I wanted it to be 18 carat like the engagement ring and then decided I wanted diamonds in it. I was seeing options for about 300-400 for a plain 9 carat band.

Engagement ring was about £2000. Wedding ring was about £100 although that was a plain band, I do have an eternity ring with diamonds in it and that was about £1500 I think.

Would also recommend going to an independent jewellers where you can discuss exactly what you want, they can consider having made... and my MIL works in one such place and they are often asked for and give small discounts (10-15%).

Engagement ring was bought in 1986 and wedding ring in 1989. Wedding ring was about double the price. Shame we got divorced in 2005.

We brought a bridal set. Was £3600, no idea how much it will cost for DP’s ring though. 😂

Over 20 years ago. Engagement ring was £500, wedding ring was the more expensive of the two I liked around £70 iirc.
I'm amazed at the price some PP are quoting!

Mine were both £500 25 years ago. My wedding ring is actually an eternity ring that matches my engagement ring.

Like TeenMinus I'm a bit taken aback - I got engaged 30 years ago.

Engagement ring was £250 - 9ct gold, three small diamonds (pretty sure they were real diamonds) from a Glasgow jeweller. Loved it. Seriously pissed off when it got lost.

Wedding ring was £15 from The Gold Centre (anyone else remember them?) - I wanted one of those triple Russian-style ones, but it was a terribly bad idea because I fidgeted with it constantly and eventually two of the (very thin) bands broke. Replaced it about 8 years ago with one to match H's, which had cost £25 from The Gold Centre - a plain band with a flattened profile.

My engagement ring was about £100 more than my wedding ring. That said engagement ring is antique and pretty intricate; we had to try and find a wedding band in the same style. Found a brand that does very similar styles - tried them last week (at the one and only jeweller in the UK that do said brand) and it was perfect. My engagement ring was fairly average I think in terms of cost (maybe a bit higher than average); wedding ring is definitely on the expensive side. Both platinum, diamond channel set (woth milgrain detail + grain set). Wedding is mid 2023.

My engagement ring cost slightly less than my wedding ring. My wedding ring is gold and slightly wishbone with 3 diamonds rolled into the gold. We saw that first and got the engagement ring to fit. Unfortunately one of the diamonds has come out of the engagement ring, so now I'm having trouble finding something else to fit.

Engagement ring was £180 from and antique shop. It's a diamond trilogy ring in 18ct gold.

Wedding ring is a plain 18ct band and was around £250 from local jeweller and they had a full fitting case so we are really pleased. Also where family got their rings from.

I wanted a second hand engagement ring as they depreciate so quickly. I picked it dh paid for it.

Engagement ring cost around £900 but was on "offer" so was slightly less than it should have been. White gold and diamond.
Wedding ring around £300 I think. Plain white gold.

Actually thinking about it that might have been £300 in total for mine and DHs wedding rings. Can't remember
