Can anyone who's done a home PCR test tell me how quickly you got your results? Thanks Smile

@Crunchymum

How long is it taking to recieve the tests in the first place? Surely that add another 24h to how long things are taking?

(Just planning ahead as I have a "cougher" so assume she'll need testing before long)

I ordered mine online at about 6pm last night and they arrived around 1pm today - they come pretty quickly.

Got our results via email at 1am. So kit was delivered here about 11am on Tues, posted at 3ish and received at the lab at 8pm that night, then results this morn, so not bad really. This will be the Glasgow testing lab.

NHS at-home PCR. Posted 1530 Monday afternoon - results 1700 on Tuesday.

Negative - just a horrific summer cold with a raw throat, a very runny nose & lots of mouth ulcers. The throat & ulcers meant I had problems speaking!
But I was panicking about it - I'd done a LFT the day before it hit & seen my mother in her care home.

Did you get a notification it was at the lab? I haven't heard anything...

@meltinginthisheat I do them weekly and never get a notification that they’ve been received

Mindymomo · 09/09/2021 07:09

Make your you log the barcode from the packaging. My son didn’t and had to chase after 3 days. As soon as he put it on, negative result was sent straight away.

I can't get my head round why the postal ones seem to take so much longer. Ours were sent off Thursday and showing as arrived at lab Thursday night but still nothing. All home tests have been 24 hrs ish. Surely once any delay from posting has passed the timings should be similar.

We have no symptoms and are testing as contacts so perhaps they don't prioritise those? My son played football with someone who has since tested positive (no T&T notification) and I know I have taught several students who are now positive this week so I've done one out of an abundance of caution. I've been wearing ffp3 at all times though and we've both had almost daily negative laterals so expecting negatives.

Back in july I posted it back in the priority postbox before the pick up at 5pm then the result came in around 9am the next morning. Was surprisingly speedy but there are more cases now so I suspect it is taking longer.

That is really good. Faster than any of our in person tests. Ours aren't urgent. I'm not making my son isolate because he has had negative daily lateral flows, no symptoms and we don't even know for sure of he was close to the kid. Any contact would have been fleeting and outdoors. Have not had an official notification that he is a contact from T&T but the family notified the football team so getting pcr tested as an extra precaution really as the coach told us to. I haven't been told I'm a contact but I know I have taught several positive students over the last week or so so when it asked if we wanted tests for anyone else in the family I got one for me to. We will isolate if we get it in the family, even though we aren't supposed to anymore. I think the new rules are too lax about isolating now. (I can't isolate every time I have a + case in one of my classes though else I'd never leave the house. It's mad).
