Have name changed for this.
Anniversary meal, we book a restaurant that we've been to before. Arrive to find a paper menu with 5 choices. Ask if thats the menu and told yes. So we order, no starters or anything available. Husband asked afterwards and they said that there is only one chef working, so it's a limited menu.
We finished our meal and dining experience in an hour (no atmosphere at all).
Go to the local for a drink, which is busy. Listen to the pub quiz, which we're rubbish at. The person who wrote the questions thought it was appropriate to have one about the Taliban Confused.
Can't get a taxi anywhere within a 5 mile radius so end up walking home for 2 hours.

Happy Anniversary to us! Grin
So glad to be home with a cuppa!

@Deathraystare yes agreed! We've had to text our order to the bar once and they missed a meal out. I like to talk to a person, ordering from a menu.

Happy Anniversary OP :) The walk sounds nice actually, chatting to your DP etc. Have a nice rest of the weekend!

I don't think the Taliban question was inappropriate or insensitive either. It's a current affairs topic.
At least you'll be able to remember this anniversary though!

As an aside, foxes make the most horrendous noise, especially when walking along an unlit road next to fields.
I normally love wildlife but wasn't so keen last night!
@Letthelightoflove yes it was a current affairs, just a bad one in my opinion. Thanks, it was memorable, haha.

The hospitality industry in currently in crisis.... its sounds like the restaurant tried but they should have pre-warned you about the limited menu.
Please continue to support them as if we don't even more businesses will disappear

Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 08:12

@Persephonegoddess yes we have been supporting them. Maybe they thought it would put people off if they pre-warned them. It would definitely be a shame if this restaurant disappeared as its a popular place in a quiet area.

That wasn't an inappropriate question. Do you think we should all not mention it Confused

Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 08:23

@FatJan no not at all, in fact, I think the opposite. I just don't think it should take be used to score an easy point in a pub quiz at this moment in time.

Regards the taxi. There is a massive shortage of taxi drivers in my area .

LobotomisedIceSkatingFan · 29/08/2021 08:26

Nothing inappropriate at all about the question; it's topical, it's world news, and it describes a political situation. The questions can't all be about 'Love Island', after all. Inappropriate would have been: 'Police this week announced they were dragging a quarry following a tip-off about the disappearance 12 years ago of . . . who?'

The meal sounds a bit disappointing, though. There are starters that are relatively easy to prep and plate up, even for a bloke on his own, poor sod.

Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 08:34

@LobotomisedIceSkatingFan glad it wasn't about Love Island, I wouldn't have had a clue! We weren't participating in it anyway. Yes I know, the chef did well!
@sandgrown I have never known it so hard to get a taxi. We laughed because the same one went by us 3 times. I wondered if nightclubs were now open and that's why there was a shortage? Or late bars.
