Too good to go boxes

Got my first box this week.

What's the quality like in yours, you get them? I'm not that impressed, there were a few mushy tomatoes and plums, brown and papery broad bean pods and stuff with insect holes. Stuff I wouldn't consider too good to go, some of it is fit for the bin. But, it was from an independent organic place, so maybe that's why. It won't be wasted, what I dont want and is suitable will go in the dogs bowl.

I'm picking up a box from a mini supermarket later and a patisserie, so I'll compare quality with those, hopefully they'll be better.

Also, have you discovered any amazing recipes/concoctions with the odds and ends?

It would not be for me ,I put a lot of emphasis on food buying and [reafer to pay full price for top quality fppd of my choice

Also i think it should be given to charities working with the homeless.

In my neighbourhood a couple of pretty well off women are always banging on about it {shock}

Too good to go works with fareshare and a lot of non perishables go to people in need but the fresh stuff will either go to this or the bin so no need to be sanctimonious about it. Being well off doesn't preclude someone from liking a bargain or wanting to reduce food waste.

I don't bother with supermarket bags or anything that could have meat in but I've picked up a bag from two different bakeries recently - one contained 4 vegan pastries that made me very happy and the other was 6 incredible handmade doughnuts and a few pastries which my son loved. Total bargains.

I agree with complaining if they aren’t good. I’ve had a few Morrison’s bags of varying quality and had my money back on the rubbish ones.

I’ve found one of my local greggs to be really good. So I get one a week from them.

We have a good independent bakery near us that does it and you always get 5 ENORMOUS pastries for your £4 and they are amazing for breakfast the next day. We’ve also got an M and S garage at the end of our road and sometimes when DS and I are bored when DH is at work we’ll book one for 9pm and walk down and collect it. The most recent one had 5 fresh pastries, a pizza, two big packets of bread rolls, two dips and some mezze. Pretty good value for £4 I thought especially as I could freeze the pizza and the rolls.

@SandysMam

Does no one worry about food poisoning eating out of date stuff the next day? I’m fine with best before being over but surely most of this stuff has use by dates that need to be obeyed? Or am I just being squeamish? Grin
I just picked up another bag from a supermarket this time, and the dates are all tomorrow or later.

I got a bag of hot dog buns, a carton of lactose free milk, a pack of 4 pots of danone chocolate pudding, a bottle of gazpacho, a jar of some kind of tomato dip for bread, a packet of vegetarian chicken roll, a prepared salad, a tin of tuna, a 500g pack of cornfed chicken mini fillets.

The patisserie bag had 6 pastries.

Got my first one from our co-op last night - milk, pastries, tomatoes, rolls, burgers, peas, yoghurts for £4. Pretty happy! Bagged a Costa one tomorrow so we'll see!
