Channel 4 News has just shown a picture of him on holiday in Crete, .wearing a suit, on the phone, with a Union Jack in the background. This is to show he is 'still working'.

OP posts:

Okay User1471 I'll admit they're a close second to the orange ones. Still revolting though.

I still can't quite believe he decided to go on holiday at such a crucial time. This was 18 months in the planning not just UK but how did we manage to get it so catastrophically wrong? And hes still there grinning like an idiot for the press while people are dying and being tortured as a direct result of his complacency! Unforgivable

That's what you get when the sole criteria for being appointed to the cabinet was:1) supporting BJ; 2) supporting Brexit. Incompetents who do not understand the brief.

You forgot the bit about having compassion removed from your psyche

Dominic Raab's response to criticism for failing to make a phone call; release a picture of himself making a phone call. Here is a link to some of the ridicule he is getting: www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/raab-making-a-phone-call-or-not-has-been-given-the-meme-treatment-286834/

@newnortherner111

Mr Raab is not actually the worst Foreign Secretary of all time. That was Mr Johnson.
That's very true.
FreezerBird · 20/08/2021 18:53

In normal life I'd have some sympathy for someone in a high-powered job being very protective about holidays and down-time.

However I think in that sort of role there are surely things which constitute 'I don't care if he's holidaying on the moon, get him on the phone now' type emergencies.

If 'Afghanistan completely and predictably going to shit on your watch' doesn't qualify for the above I don't know what would.

Livingtothefull · 20/08/2021 19:00

It was an utter dereliction of duty for the Prime Minister and his 2nd in command to be on holiday at the same time - at ANY time let alone a critical time like this. What on earth made them think that was acceptable? It is unforgivable.

Even in many organisations the CEO and their deputy would not expect to be able to holiday at the same time.

Mytholmroyd · 20/08/2021 21:16

Yes dereliction of duty sums it up. Not fit for high office.

BalloonSlayer · 20/08/2021 21:46

Can't link on my phone but he is a living embodiment of the Yes Prime Minister joke about the foreign office's four step policy for foreign crises:

Step 1 - Nothing is going to happen.
Step 2 - Something might be going to happen but we must not do anything about it.
Step 3 - Maybe we ought to do something about it, but there's nothing we can do.
Step 4 - Maybe there's something we could have done, but it's too late now.

Look it up on YouTube, the delivery is ace.

Mate I'm a lowly admin and I can't book holidays at the same time as my admin colleague, and thats pretty standard for most commercial workplaces.
TheWeeDonkey · 21/08/2021 08:18

BalloonSlayer its scary how accurate Yes Prime Minister is. Someone should tell them its satire not a training program.

KaptainKaveman · 21/08/2021 08:23

Agree with all previous comments, except that they aren't damning enough. The current bunch are truly useless twats with no sense of the importance of their role or remit. Johnno couldn't give a shit - his only concern is getting back to his book 'writing', shagging lots of women and a column in the fascistgraph once he leaves no 10. He's the man that was such an abysmal Home Sec that he actually managed to get Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe MORE prison time in Iran.

Raab is a serial liar and preferred getting an even tan line to even bothering to pick up the phone as Kabul was falling. What shits they are.

@KaptainKaveman Yes, this cannot be said often enough. What a tool.

All of them are cruel, selfish, incompetent people. I only wish them the happiness they deserve.

Sillysop92 · 21/08/2021 09:46

The whole Tory Party resembles a Cabal and The way they are all falling over themselves to support Raab is sycophantic. I can’t think of anything good to say about any of them.

ThinWomansBrain · 21/08/2021 19:03

I am no supporter of Raab, but incredulous that the D Mail implies a phone call from the ineffective twerp to his Afghani counterpart preparing to hotfoot it out of the country would have made an ounce of difference to the situation.
Whether he'd made the call from a five star hotel suite or a London office, it wouldn't.

You can't know that. If his phone call saved one life it would have been worth it.
