Opinions on the coil please

I am nearly 40 and my nurse is telling me I need to consider other methods of contraception. I've been on the pill since I was 18, except for having a baby 14 years ago. I have always been happy with the pill primarily to have control over my periods. However, I am finding it increasingly difficult to lose weight and my libido is through the floor so I'm starting to think I should consider other options.

So my priorities are: light or absent periods, no weight gain, better sex drive. Oh and I'm a bit squeamish so will I be able to feel it? Any coil experiences welcome, good or bad.

I have had a copper coil for about 3 years. There have been no problems with it. I took the Pill for years except when TTC but it was causing problems particularly with my libido.
It was hard to find somewhere to get a coil fitted in my area. My GP surgery doesn't do it. They advised contacting the sexual health service where there was a long wait for appointments and I ended up going somewhere on the other side of the city, which was a challenge as I can't drive and had no idea where I was going. The actual fitting wasn't pleasant, but I reasoned it was a lot less painful than going through labour which could have ended up being the alternative. I took a couple of paracetamol that day and it was ok. My period was heavier for a few months but then back to normal. I like not having to think about contraception at all for 10 years though I miss being able to use the pill to miss periods that were due at inconvenient times. Overall, it has been positive for me.
Just reread your OP, from your priorites: I didn't get light or absent periods, they were heavier for a few months then back to my normal which is not particulary heavy. Better sex drive and no weight gain were true for me.
