If a scoop neck I would say vest top. If more a boat neck or crew neck I would say tank. Cheriebaby’s pic is a sleeveless top in my book. If spaghetti straps I would call it a camisole/cami top. Golly, it’s minefield, lol

emummy · 10/08/2021 18:57

Vest top; I have them for running and they’re always called vests

Ozberry · 10/08/2021 18:58

That’s a vest. If it wasn’t sporty it would be a vest top. A tank goes over a blouse.
I’m in my 40s if that’s relevant

Noworneverever · 10/08/2021 18:58

It depends on the width of the shoulders. From just being thin straps up to 2-3 inches thickness and it's a vest.
Thicker than 2-3 inches and it's a sleeveless top.
But if it's got a long body with thick width shoulders then it's a tunic.

lalaloopyhead · 10/08/2021 18:58

Well I would save that is a sleeveless sports top, or even a racer back sports top.

itsgettingwierd · 10/08/2021 18:59

Vest top or sports top or sports vest for the item you showed.

Housecar · 10/08/2021 19:02

I would call it a vest top if it’s a basic cotton/poly casual top. The kind of thing you get from Primark for £2. If I’m looking for something a bit more trendy/stylish then tank top is usually a better search term for me.

sixswans · 10/08/2021 19:05

I would call it a singlet top

doadeer · 10/08/2021 19:06

Thank you everyone.

As always most valuable! 🙏

Ooo, I'd say a yoga top probably.

Or more generally
Vest top for thick straps, sleeveless top for something smart, strappy top if it has thin straps, tank top if knitted.

Racer back sports top. Same shape but not sporty material = racer back vest

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 10/08/2021 19:11

vest top from the photo. If it was made from sports clothes/gym wear material I’d call it a sports vest or sports top

LilithTheKitty · 10/08/2021 21:20

I'd call it a racer back vest top from your picture. Just a vest top from your original description.

SwanShaped · 10/08/2021 21:23

A shell top (thanks Sewing Bee)

RuthW · 10/08/2021 21:23

Vest

A tank top is a woollen sleeveless jumper worn over a shirt.

trappistkepler · 10/08/2021 21:27

sports vest top or vest top

maddy68 · 10/08/2021 21:29

I just call them a top. Or a sleeveless top.

Isababybel · 10/08/2021 21:46

The picture is of a vest.
If the straps are a lot wider it is a tank top, can you even still get them these days??
Its a term i used a lot in the late 90s/early 00s when they were popular.

mewkins · 10/08/2021 21:52

I'd call it a vest top. Sometimes sporty ones are singlets for running.

cherrypiepie · 10/08/2021 22:04

In the UK Vest top. Tank top is what they are called in the US or a knitted sleeveless jumper in the UK

I would describe yours as a racer back style or "twist racerback vest top".
