Does anybody drive a Mini?

Would you recommend one?
I've never driven one, and only ever sat inside one once.
I'd obviously test drive one before purchasing, but just want opinions beforehand. TIA

Oh! They don't do run flats as standard any more - as I found when I needed to change mine. Confused the blokes at ATS too Smile

Just as well, they were bloody noisy,

CheerfulBunny · 10/08/2021 17:59

That's a good thing @CuriousaboutSamphire they were so hard it almost broke your teeth when you went over a pothole! I had to use the can of foam they supply for flat tyres on them once and it didn't work so had to call out Green Flag Sad That was a fun night...

We had a top of the range John Cooper Works. Looked nice and I suppose was fast but to be honest I much prefer having a bigger car. Traded it in for a golf GTI which I preferred.

I love mine but trying to change it for a Ford c max

Gonegrey31 · 10/08/2021 18:05

I have a Mini one ( as my second car ) and I drive it the most, have had it 4 years without any problems at all . Really enjoy it , and the easy parking etc is great .

MondeoFan · 10/08/2021 18:08

I have 2x Mini
A Mini one that's 17 years old and a Mini Cooper Convertible that's 7 years old.
My fave being the latter one.
I love them as much as I love my dog. Economical and fun to drive. Convertible one has all the extras like heated seats, can play music from my phone, interior lights are colour changing etc

weegiepower · 10/08/2021 18:09

I used to have one, I made the mistake of not test driving (don't know why!!) and got a new one that I designed exactly how I wanted it and it looked lovely... but I HATED it, horrible to drive, like driving a go kart around. I sold it after a couple years!

trying2022 · 10/08/2021 18:27

I have a 2013 Cooper and it's brilliant! Nippy, cheap to fill (only costs us £30 to fill the whole thing with petrol) and amazing at getting into tight spaces. We recently did some country driving and found we were able to squeeze past cars really easily on a single track - all these 4x4s were having to reverse up the road!

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 10/08/2021 18:30

Yes, I've had 2. Currently got a 2 year old 5 door mini cooper. Plenty of room inside for 2 school age children. Decent boot size for shopping bags etc. I don't need it for travelling luggage or pushchairs etc. I love it and will get another after this one.

Socksorter · 10/08/2021 18:30

I like mine, its is like driving a go kart, its nippy (1.6) and is so convenient to park, never had any problems, its 10 years old now so will be going soon
Think its a hard ride that you notice more as a passenger than you do driving, no problem getting the shopping in
The car suits me, i am short and i just feel everything is just that bit smaller
My husband hates it and my daughters not keen but i would get another

justasking111 · 10/08/2021 18:31

Had my convertible for a decade year 2006. Never broken down, failed MOT. Needed brake pads and tyres replacement but nothing else. Can get two small children in the rear with car seats. They love the top down on good days

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 10/08/2021 18:34

I had a mini Cooper which I did like and then got a lease car through work which was a Renault captur which was awful to drive after the mini.
Have now got a countryman and love it, it's big enough for all our stuff when going on holiday, nippy driving round town, reliable and I think nice to look at which I know is less important.
I would agree however about the interior getting a bit tatty considering the price.

cathyandclare · 10/08/2021 18:35

I'm on my second Mini Cooper and I LOVE it, when it's time to replace it I'll get another Mini. I know lots of family and friends who have all had several Minis and not heard any complaints.

Purplecatshopaholic · 10/08/2021 18:36

I’ve had two. A Mini Cooper, then the faster Mini Cooper S. Both great - loved them. Sold the last one due to lack of use during lockdown. Decent headroom if you or your partner are tall. Fun to drive. Both mine were convertibles and the back window is really tiny - only downside for me. Would have another one

MsMiaWallace · 10/08/2021 18:36

I'm in love with the Countryman's. Nearly bought one last month.
Anyone else got one?

GSD20 · 10/08/2021 18:45

We have a cooper S John cooper works.

It does have a lovely interior, way nicer than my newer Audi! However the ride is harsh and it’s also impractical and expensive to run. We never bother taking it shopping for example as we won’t fit anything at all in it!

I think we will eventually get rid of it but DH likes throwing it around Grin

Roselilly36 · 10/08/2021 18:51

I really enjoyed my mini convertible, I had a special edition one, I really loved it, DH hated it said it didn’t feel safe to him.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 10/08/2021 18:52

I learnt in a fairly new Mini Cooper sport and it was an absolutely dream to drive. I really want a Countryman when I can afford it.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 10/08/2021 18:52

I have a Mini Cooper countryman and I love it, have had it from new 7 years ago and will be trading it for an electric one in the near future.

Have driven everything from 7 seater people carriers to 40 year old MG and it's my favourite. Grin

MyCousinDaphne · 10/08/2021 18:57

I love my Mini! I have a three year old, 20000 on the clock five door mini one. It is our only car, kids fine in the back and since my previous car was an Aygo and I ferried two kids around in that for 10 years, the boot feels massive!

I'm thinking of getting a countryman. Have you tried to fit a pushchair in yours?
generalh · 10/08/2021 19:04

I had 3. I only changed my car when the dealership that I had bought all 3 minis didn't give me a good deal for a 4th and so bought a Toyota hybrid instead. I do miss my mini though.

TeamRick · 10/08/2021 19:04

I had a Mini Cooper for 17 years from new, loved it but fancied a change & had a vW Polo, but really missed a mini so now I have another one! I bloody love it!
I'm hoping to keep this one for 17 years too!

catsareme14 · 10/08/2021 19:07

Mini convertible here ! Absolutely love it . Will never have anything else now

TheLibraryIsOpen · 10/08/2021 19:07

I have a 2016 Mini One and have really enjoyed driving it. I got it two years ago after a Fiat 500. I will stick with Mini in the future.
