...and lost it immediately? Got some nice new shoes for DS today, put the bag down at some point afterwards and just left it. Rather upsetting but I hope some child somewhere is benefitting from them 😭 anyone else as careless as I am?

Bought a mini instax camera and film last Christmas for dd. It disappeared by the time I wanted to wrap it. Assumed it would show up by now but it never has. It's a total mystery!

SiulaGrande · 10/08/2021 20:20

DD's first secondary school photos. Looked at them, put them "somewhere safe" to give to DGPs for Christmas, never seen again.

This was years ago. I'd have been 20, 21 or so. Working minimum wage, paycheck to paycheck, never had much spare cash.

Got £100 from my grandparents for my birthday and decided to splurge it in Lush, my favourite shop at the time. Back then you could still get quite a bit for £100 in Lush, so I stocked up on face cream, body lotion, shampoos, conditioner, bath stuff. Enough to keep me in essentials and luxuries for a while.

Went to McDonalds after and must have left the bag there. I realised on the bus home. Got off the bus and raced back to see if it was still there, but it wasn't, and hadn't been handed in.

Was so angry at whatever arsehole nicked it.

I lose things regularly; most recent was a combi-usb charger that I bought for DH to take to hospital (surgery) last November. Surgery was cancelled, and only recently re-scheduled. It's taken me three weeks to find the charger, and I found it in the bag that I had packed for him in November, exactly where (logically) it should have been but where I never thought to look.

For anything lost immediately after buying, DH tells me to check the bags-for-life in the kitchen cupboard. And I have found things again - I unpack all the food shopping but then forget the XYZ (non-food) that I also bought, so it stays in the bag and goes into the cupboard.

Christmas presents have to go immediately into our present stockpile cupboard, else they would be lost forever ....

I remember when my niece was born. I'd bought a goody box with lotions/nappies and essentials and got a gift card too. Which vanished as soon as I arrived home.

It eventually turned up in the bin. I had to open it up and wade through the remains of the previous days roast dinner. It was smudged al over the envelope and blood stunk too!

My sister is a whooper when it comes to those money envelopes for Christmas. Every year she buys them early, tells me where they are because she has misplaced soo many and we both forget 😆

I did leave a bag of shopping at the checkout at M&S after just paying for it. Blame young DC who were taking all of my attention! I went back not long after and they'd kept it for me.

Not quite the same, but I spent ages trying to find the perfect swimming costume. Eventually did, got it home, cut out the tags only to realise I'd cut a huge bloody hole in the swimming costume! Sad

Found a bag of shopping in a cloth bag this evening at a tube stop. Told a member of staff and they took it. But some poor bugger had to do without their milk this evening.

Itsbeen84yearss · 10/08/2021 23:58

I do it every time I go to MAC for some reason. I buy a lipstick or whatever, come out with the little bag and bang that’s the last I see of it.

@MrsFlinch

Yes had been in town, bought quite a few items including clothes totalling about £50, condensed it all into one bag, went for a coffee. We left and I realised I’d left bag under the table (where it couldn’t be easily seen) Dived straight back (less than two minutes) bag was gone. Asked if it had been handed in, no, Asked if they could check cctv was told it wasn’t working. I suspect waitress had taken it as our table had been cleared and no other customers where we were sitting. I also stupidly left receipts in the bag. I always put receipts in my purse now!

Bought two lynx gift sets for Ds’s Christmas stockings. Put them in the hiding place in garage with everything else. When it came to wrapping presents. Both gone, never to be seen again!
I know I didn’t dream buying and hiding them. Unless I’ve created a false memory I’m stumped!

And another one Dh found a Peter Rabbit 50p in his change and handed it to me (I keep the picture ones) I put it somewhere safe and then couldn’t find it for about a month.
I found it somewhere obvious that I know I checked before and held it in my hand whilst doing something else. I told myself to put it in my pot with the others or you’ll lose it again. Got distracted. 10 minutes later gone!
I have absolutely no idea what I did with it. I didn’t put it in the pot and have searched high and low for the bloody thing. It’s been about 3 weeks now.

Your 50p didn’t have a blob of pink nail varnish on it, did it? My husband spent mine by accident and I’d had it for years! Sad

Got a 'Betty Boop' t shirt from a charity shop. Went to put it on but could not find it. I turned the bag inside out. I later rang the charity shop and they offered to give me a refund. Of course I wasn't going to do that but did later (months later) find where I had flung it when I went through the bag. Yes I am that untidy (well turning a new leaf over now!)

largeprintagathachristie · 11/08/2021 07:51

Oh, so many. So many things lost and LOTS of near misses. And even though I know I'm like this, it doesn't seem to help.

In my twenties I was travelling and splashed a lot of money at duty free on presents for the family. (It would have all been on my credit card rather than money I actually had!). Perfume for mum, sisters, older nieces etc; six bottles in all. Was sitting at the airport and somehow walked off leaving the bag under my chair. Raced back four minutes later but it had been nicked..

Hooks on the back of toilet doors are also a danger zone for me!

My son had been ill and in hospital (about 3 years of age). I was so happy we were out, and I went to Waitrose on the way home and did a huge shop. We had been in hospital for nearly a week and I knew everything would be gone off back at home.

Delighted with myself and my healthy son I scooped him out of the trolley seat, strapped him into his car seat and drove home. I still remember how in love and grateful I was to have him alive and in my arms when I lifted him from the trolley…

Got home and got us in… unpacked through all the hospital bags, the emergency clothes and and all that, and then Hmm

Drove 10 miles back to Waitrose and up to the customer desk looking for my £100 shopping.

A man had been watching us and a note was sellotaped to my trolley, obviously his description - “woman with young child suspiciously abandoned her shopping” Grin

I still remember having my son in my arms and just forgetting everything else.

BikeRunSki · 11/08/2021 08:07

Bought a top from shop 1. Left it in the changing rooms of shop 2. It was a really nice top as well!

A couple of years ago bought ds an excellent stocking filler from a shop I popped into when I was in a different town for work. This was in about September. Couldn’t flipping find it in December though!

Mydogisagentleman · 11/08/2021 08:12

Avocados.
In the past week, I have purchased and lost 3 avocados on 3 separate occasions.
I can only assume that I will come across a slimes mess soon

MrsFlinch · 11/08/2021 15:29

@Andrew2020, sadly not. This was a newer one. But if I ever do stumble across one with pink nail varnish, will gladly forward it on!

This one actually was lovely to read. 😊

To everyone else, I'm sorry but I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've stopped crying about the shoes now at least. 😅
