Nice places to stay- Harry Potter warner bros tour

Hello!

Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay around the Harry Potter studio tour? My only real requirements would be parking. My default tends to be a Premier Inn, but would love ideas from the MN hive mind. :) It would be 1 adult, 2 DCS one room.

We went last week and stayed in the Jury's Inn in Watford.

Breakfast is a shit bag of pastries delivered to your door so don't fall for that.

Parking is a block away. £4 for overnight I think!

Watford high street is great - 2 minutes walk from the hotel and a huge variety of restaurants and fast food places

Thanks!

Love the idea of Watford high street. We are a little low on restaurants where we are right now. (chicken shop and 2 pubs notwithstanding).

we went to an Italian L'artista or something. The food was lovely. Lots have pavement seating now too so it feels a bit holiday like!

Brilliant- I am taking notes thank you. :) This will likely be our only trip away so I am keen to make it a really good one. Italian suits my DCs perfectly!

My original plan was to stay somewhere around Euston and train in, but actually have just discovered Watford is only 2 hours from where we live approx. (love Google Directions)

We're staying at the Premier Inn in St Albans when we go soon. It also has good restaurants and also has the Abbey to visit.

BlueLobelia · 04/08/2021 12:38

oooh!

[googles]

Thanks to you both. I find that Covid has made me quite a nervous traveller. Used to travel for work all the time and really confident. Now I find i really value guidance.

Thanks

I would stay in St Albans its prettier than Watford, market wed and sunday and lots of places to eat.
The Premier Inn in the city centre is a great location it would be 20 mins drive to HP

Eat at Tabure for a lovely meal and Bills or the Ivy for a 'posh' breakfast. Cheaper options with Costa / Pret / Pubs

If I was only 2 hours away I would stay at home , boring I know , and save the hotel money for a trip away somewhere else .

The Hunton Park Mercure is a Queen Anne manor house with an indoor pool set in acres of parkland. The Harry Potter studios are built on land that was originally part of the estate. The cheapest price I found was £68 for a room.

You also have The Grove spa and resort nearby but it is pricey.

The principle is sound Grin

But i need a trip 'away'. Planning 2 nights as DS1 is as excited about a hotel stay as the HP experience itself. :) It's funny how hotel room tvs are so much more exciting!

We stayed in St Albans when we went - nice town with lots of restaurants / parks and then easy to drive to HP for the day!

BlueLobelia · 04/08/2021 13:19

although mind you, with info about St Albans and the Abbey and market days, might make it 3 nights and have an extra day looking around.

(One 'advantage' of Covid is that we have been to places we would probably just have driven through otherwise).

I am getting very excited! Thanks everyone. :)

I'd also stay in St Albans, it's very pretty. There's some great parks, great restaurants and good shopping - the only downside is the traffic, but I think that's more manageable in the summer hols. In Watford there are cinemas, Rock Up climbing place and ten pin bowling. From HP you're also not far along the back roads from the ski centre at Hemel Hempstead.

Floralnomad · 04/08/2021 13:33

Do the extra day / night as then that makes it worthwhile

Hi there, just in case any one else sees this thread I rent my beautiful home near the studios, on the canal in Kings Langley. Sleeps up to 12 people if you are coming as a group. Perfect place to explore from (walk to high street and train line into London), and visit the studios whilst you're here https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/1224436447741281120?viralityEntryPoint=1&unique_share_id=B73D59BB-E175-4E15-870B-66728C169AAA&slcid=a421b452302f48f19e753d31cf2a9ddb&s=76&feature=share&adults=1&channel=native&slug=CpT2gNBI&source_impression_id=p3_1728988444_P3hXepAD7OeuJvFD
