Weekend in London

Decided to book a surprise weekend in London for my daughters birthday next month. Have booked the train but any suggestions of a cheap hotel, preferably near a tube station?

Also is it still the cheapest method just to use your bank card on the tube? But buy a travel card for dd?

We will use the ticket booth in Leicester Square to get tickets to a show if that's still open?

It's been a few years since we last visited, we like markets, shows, shopping any suggestions of activities or places to visit?

I’d probably go with City Rd, near old street, bank and Liverpool Street so you’ve a good choice of travel from there and decent buses. Farringdon is meh but probably ok transport wise and walking. sounds like Tower bridge a bit farther from what you want to see.

If you stay there walk down to Spitalfields market, grab some lunch, see the gherkin or you could go for a late night meal at Duck and Waffle up Heron Tower.

If she’s into the Instagram vibe take her for a walk round selfridges and go to Elan cafe. There’s a stand-alone branch nearby toot my niece of the age thinks Selfridges for their beauty pick and mix, then Elan is a trip to heaven.

If she’s into Korean, there are a few nice food places round Old Street too, I like On The Bab, they don’t take bookings though

I would HIGHLY, as in best I’ve seen in years, recommend Six musical, you can get some cheap tickets so I’d book this ahead.

@dancemom

There is a cap on the maximum you spend that way isn't there?
Yes £ 7.40 a day

Faringdon travel lodge is my favourite, it's right near Exmouth Market and the number 38 bus goes from Mount Pleasant towards Shaftsbury Avenue/Piccadiliy/Green Park one way and Angel the other way.

Tower Bridge is a good location. Farringdon too much of a pain re: the tube. You’ll get around easier from Tower Bridge.. plus the tower is lovely to walk past at night

Second giving Camden a wide berth
Someone sadly set them self on fire outside the tube station last week -
And a body was recovered from the Canal path a couple of days ago

I live nearby and hate Camden, thought it was fun when I was young (long long ago)

There are lots of nicer places to do

dancemom · 05/08/2021 14:21

Thank you everyone for your input, I'm frantically noting everything down

If you can get tickets for it, take her to see Heathers the musical.

dancemom · 05/08/2021 14:30

Is the booth in Leicester Square still open does anyone know?

It wasn't open when we were up there on Tuesday evening.
Popetthetreehugger · 05/08/2021 14:56

🤣I think I’m
Opposite the tower bridge one now ! When are you coming ? Tower bridge tube station is closed , I think till next week ? It’s literally 5 min from tower bridge just past the mint . Wouldn’t fancy walking here at night . Ubers are cheap so don’t let that put you off ! Enjoy 😎😎🎉x

Popetthetreehugger · 05/08/2021 14:59

The big one wasn’t last week but there are shop ones are open 🎭

HenslowesDiary · 05/08/2021 15:07

I would go for Tower Bridge too. It's a nice spot.

Tkts booth is still closed but I think they are online at officiallondontheatre.com/tkts

dancemom · 05/08/2021 15:10

Not till the end of September

Thanks for the ticket tips
