“Headache virus going around”

WolfFleeceSpotter · 30/07/2021 02:27

I’ve had a headache for a week. Negative Covid test, no other symptoms. I have had quite a few friends also say they have had cluster headaches and two said “there is a headache virus going around”. I took that to mean a virus with a headache as the only symptom but not Covid. All have been tested with negative results.
Anyone else had the same thing? How can you get it to go? Pain killers not helping. It is like a dull pain, always there.

I was blaming the weather! I’ve got swollen glands and a sore throat, both dds 11mo and 5yrs have had headcolds/chesty coughs and gp telling me to go to a&e !

Parttimemostofthetime · 30/07/2021 15:10

Thought it was just me. I've got a bad head and swollen glands. Negative lateral flow, no other symptoms. Couldn't sleep well last night because of the headache

CatsLikeBoxes · 30/07/2021 15:19

I've had a persistent sore throat, headache and fatigue - had 2 negative pcrs as invited to test by Zoe symptom study twice

@Bryonyshcmyony LFT are for asymptomatic people, you should really have got a PCR as those are pretty clear coronavirus symptoms! But I understand it's a little late now, hope you're feeling better

ADHDgirl · 30/07/2021 15:32

My eldest DD currently has covid, her DP who shares her bedroom has been isolating in there with her since Saturday, he’s double vaccinated, tested negative every day on LFT, started with a cough last night and this morning high temp and fever etc. Definitely covid but negative LFTs

MissyB1 · 30/07/2021 15:36

I’ve started with what feels like a head cold today, also have a slightly sore throat too. Supposed to be going away to stay with friends for the weekend, we are all double jabbed but I’m not going to risk it.

Itstheprinciple · 30/07/2021 15:58

My first symptom of covid in December was a headache as though I'd had too much wine the night before. That's exactly what I put it down to buy luckily I'd had a PCR test done already and it was positive. At no point did I have temp or cough and I didn't lose my sense of taste or smell (but my taste changed to a really weird aftertaste which put me off eating)

rantymcrantface66 · 30/07/2021 16:21

Are you sure it's not the weather? I get headachey when it's muggy/thundery and I believe that is quite common. I certainly know others personally who are the same.

WhatMattersMost · 30/07/2021 16:23

I think as time goes on that we'll see that PCR tests are increasingly flawed against the newer variants. Just musing ...

SoddingWeddings · 30/07/2021 16:29

Cluster headache is a very specific type of migraine, and is sometimes called suicide headache because it's so horrific. Are people really thinking they have this? I've had it twice for weeks at a time and it's worse than the chronic migraine I have.

That said, headache is often linked to sinuses, so could easily be linked with any upper respiratory infection / virus / swelling and not be covid.

rantymcrantface66 · 30/07/2021 16:31

Cluster headache is a very specific type of migraine, and is sometimes called suicide headache because it's so horrific. Are people really thinking they have this?

Just another example of people with a cold and slight aches saying they have flu or people with a slightly more persistent headache than normal saying they have a migraine. It's usually clear which one it really is

RandomMess · 30/07/2021 16:37

Where are people saying they have a horrific migraine type headache?

Persistent headache is just one that last for days and isn't relieved with painkillers.

I'm certainly not comparing my Covid headache to my migraines?? I got a PCR test because I felt exhausted, bad headache (couldn't sleep), mild sore throat and I wanted to be responsible and not spread it?

rantymcrantface66 · 30/07/2021 16:41

Where are people saying they have a horrific migraine type headache?

In the OP she said 'quite a few' friends all had cluster headaches. This is unlikely as cluster headaches are severe and debilitating (also not that common that you are likely to know several people all suffering at the same time). I was just likening it to when people say they have a migraine when they have a slightly longer then normal headache etc, not that anyone on this post had said that particular example

Abraxan · 30/07/2021 16:42

Whilst headaches can be a symptom of covid, it doesn't mean it is covid.

I think many people are forgetting that other viruses, and not just covid, still exist.

Dd has had cold like symptoms and a cough for a week. It's a mix of hayfever and a summer cold. She's had 4 LFTs and 2 PCRs, all negative, in this time. The chance of all 6 tests being inaccurate is unlikely.

Mixing in larger groups means that all viruses, not just covid, is circulating more.

RandomMess · 30/07/2021 16:44

Ah that makes sense.

Yep headache does not equal migraine.

After all these years I still get frightened when I get a migraine as the pain is so horrific and relentless and worse than I remember!

Abraxan · 30/07/2021 16:45

And although symptoms should be done with a PCR, that doesn't mean that an LFT will be negative when someone has covid.
That isn't the reason why LFTs are recommended for asymptomatic cases . If someone has symptoms than an LFT is likely to pick it up too.

PCRs are more accurate hence symptomatic cases should always be checked with the more reliable method.

VanillaIce1 · 30/07/2021 16:48

My dad gets cluster headaches I've never seen someone in so much pain he can't even open his eyes he just cries and cries. The GP gives him an urgent prescription of this home injection that contains an ingredient of toad of something. Sorts it out within a few hours, before he ever got that he was close to smashing his head of a wall

BIWI · 30/07/2021 17:17

This headache is nowhere near a migraine. It's just dull and persistent, and doesn't disappear after taking painkillers.

peridito · 30/07/2021 20:04

an ingredient of toad of something what sorcery is this ?

asking for a friend (honestly) who is similarly afflicted .

VanillaIce1 · 30/07/2021 20:20

@peridito Grin no idea i don't think it's been around long. When he calls to get it it comes from another place far from us and couriered down to the pharmacy. I will ask my mum what it's actually called. I know when he first had it, it wasn't licensed and was experimental it might be now.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 30/07/2021 20:26

Oh I had this for a few days. I thought it was tension headache. 4 negative covid tests (2 PCR and 2 LF).

GrumpyTerrier · 30/07/2021 20:28

Oh I have had something for a week, more of a pressure feeling and spinning head, mild headachness. I never get headaches. Negative LFTs.

peridito · 30/07/2021 20:33

@VanillaIce1 thanks ,I'd be very grateful!

Chish · 30/07/2021 21:45

I have had this for two days. My husband too. Have ordered a PCR test.
