Which norfolk beach

Over the holidays we'll be taking a day trip and want to sit and eat fish and chips while the sun goes down.
We had thought about cromer as I've been before years ago but are we missing somewhere better?
Happy with a pebble beach.. Just need it to have a chip shop. Our children are over 8 so they'll be happy beachcombing
Any recommendations?
Bonus points for somewhere quieter too
We may have an hour in cromer and do the slots/pier etc but then we want to head off for tea
Thanks!

A recommendation that you should only supervise the children. Any beach can be dangerous. With regards to where - many have offered very good options.

East Runton, great fish and chips lovely beach.

Eric’s fish and chips in Thornham and drive to Brancaster or Holme. Beautiful, quiet and wide beaches.

Gorleston beach, it's further south than the ones mentioned but a wonderful beach. Sunrise is better than sunset obviously!!

Gliblet · 27/07/2021 08:46

I'd do an hour or two in Cromer, drive to Roughton for the fish and chips (amazing chippy), and then nip back the couple of miles to Trimingham or Sidestrand to watch the sunset if you want somewhere quiet. Depending on the tides you could pick dinner up in Mundesley and then walk North along the beach and you'll get to the same quieter stretches of sand, but obviously that depends on the tide being ebbing/out for a good while.

We love Sea Palling, lovely fish & chips & hot doughnuts over the road. Sandy beach. But always windy.

Wells next the sea is wonderful too. Get the little train along. Lovely bright beach huts and huge Sandy beach.

Check the tide times.

Lots of ideas thank you!
We want somewhere quieter as we've been to hunstanton early evening and gangs of teenagers were dicking about and swearing etc
I'm not against them doing that but I'd rather not listen to it so want to be somewhere a bit quieter

Holcombe is absolutely gorgeous.

@Milomonster

Holcombe is absolutely gorgeous.
It is but the fish and chips will be stone cold by the time you actually get to the sea!
MirandaMarple · 27/07/2021 09:19

@stclair

Blakeney lovely when sun going down and there is a fish and chip shop. You’ll have quite a drive from Cromer to most of the beaches mentioned though.
Even quieter is Morston Quay, I've just stayed in Morston 😊

Parking at Salthouse beach is easy and free too.
SummerHouse · 27/07/2021 19:28

You will not get finer than winterton. Very quiet beach, dunes, fish and chips.

lljkk · 27/07/2021 19:35

Where are you staying, OP? I want to suggest Walcott, while my best fossil finds were at Mundesley & Trimingham. Happisburgh is the Mecca point for fossil hunters, but no chippy there. Also No chips at Trimingham, great chippy at Walcott, though & 2 chippies plus fab ice cream at Mundesley. They all sound like far end of Norfolk from where you're staying, though.

lljkk · 27/07/2021 19:36

Winterton is gorgeous, agreed.
Stay away from Hemsby, though.

Heyha · 27/07/2021 19:39

I took a lovely pic of the sunset from Cromer beachfront walk thing a few years ago so I'd say Cromer if you can bear to spend that much time there (I'm no fan). If not, Wells (the chippy on the waterfront is nice) but I don't think it faces the right way until you've walked quite a long way down the boardwalk?

CamperVan79 · 28/07/2021 07:20

Its a day trip so not staying anywhere.. just want to finish up the day with fish and chips at a nice beach then head home once the sun's gone down

Wells beach then drive/walk up to the Quay for fish and chips and a spot of crabbing.

BMW6 · 28/07/2021 09:29

I'm another voting for Sea Palling. Superb sandy beach, fab fish & chip shop right by the beach.
