We haven't seen family for 2 years so will have quarantine to come to the UK and quarantine when we get home.. we are calling it lockdown and need some entertainment. Kids aged 17, 14 and 12 and 2 adults. 17 always wins games, loves strategy but doesn't see the benefit of playing so everyone has fun. 14 year old always loses, would prefer there was no winner but everyone achieved in their own way and could be happy. 12 year old thinks he is the last in line for everything and has to loose to competitive older brother and also loose to highly sensitive older sister.

We are a tough crowd.

We already have lots of games, ticket to ride, carcason, pandemic fall of Rome, another Rome game I can't remember..

Hit me with your recommendations!

We enjoy Cat Chaos, Cluedo, Scotland Yard, Rapidough, Now That's What I Call Music, Would I Lie to You, Disney Villains.

I really like Camel up which is good for a large group, quirkle or camel up.

DoThePropeller · 25/07/2021 20:38

We love Coup, role play game where you are trying to work out who the spies are. Great for mixed ages.

Catan is good - there is skill involved but also luck of the dice

Power Grid
Pandemic legacy games are good if you have a committed group to play several times.
Eldritch Horror is brilliant after about the 3rd time you play - takes a long time to understand the rules!

@Redwinestillfine

Forbidden Island. It's a cooperative one but easy enough to pick up and doesn't take forever to play.
Yeah we love this

Thank all, loads of suggestions for me to look into!! We love Dixit!

'Quacks of Quedlingberg' wins the best name for a game!!

You will want to murder at least 75% of your family during playing the Really Nasty Horse Racing game. It's like watching the love you previously had for your family slowly exsanguinate out over the kitchen table as each of the little shits destroy everything you have worked for, just for the fun of it. And then you retaliate, and then they do and it just escalates.

LBOCS2 · 25/07/2021 21:07

Escape from Colditz? If you can get hold of it. It's very good, quite complex, quite long - but really good for an entertaining evening. Your DC are about the right ages for it too.

We really enjoy Splendor and have started to get our 8 year older into it.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 25/07/2021 21:40

That should say 8 year old Grin

221B Baker Street is fantastic, but I wouldn't recommend it as the 12 yo woukd be at a disadvantage. (Some of the clues are obvious, but others are things like Bible quotations. I bought it at about 14 and needed some occasional help despite being bright and well-read.)

I love Dobble and Uno.

3luckystars · 25/07/2021 23:11

Ticket to Ride is brilliant

Blamelesscars · 25/07/2021 23:11

Pandemic legacy

IchHabeSiebenFlowers · 25/07/2021 23:12

Codenames is good for team playing but with strategy too.

Herd Mentality maybe?

Munchkin, or Killer Bunnies (similar idea)

Roonilwazlib1 · 25/07/2021 23:15

Mansions of madness?

Quacks of Quedlingburg is really good fun, I also have really enjoyed Colt Express which is great for strategy, easy enough to learn the rules- my 10 year old plays it without any bother!

Turniptracker · 25/07/2021 23:20

Dixit, Sagrada, quacks of quedlinburg, potion explosion. I think brass Birmingham is way to heavy for kids??

Turniptracker · 25/07/2021 23:23

Tokyo highway or beasts of balance or junkyard are something a bit different, more dexterity based. There's also one with ladders about reaching the moon but I can't recall the name. Isle of cats and kingdomino also fun and kind of Tetris tile placement types

imnotalpharius · 25/07/2021 23:27

Our new favourite is One Night Ultimate Werewolf, great fun and each round only takes 10 minutes.

MrsBertBibby · 25/07/2021 23:27

The Binding of Isaac : Four Souls is great.

There's also Forbidden Desert, slightly more complex than Forbidden Island but also cooperative.

ChickenFeed30 · 25/07/2021 23:40

Another vote for camel up, discovered it at board game cafe with a friends a few weeks ago and all loved it. A game of strategy but also some luck.

ChickenFeed30 · 25/07/2021 23:41

Oh, and dungeon mayhem.

Mockolate · 26/07/2021 02:13

I haven't heard of ANY of these, WTF lol Grin

Great board games here are

Monopoly (unless you have sulkers or board tipper uppers if they lose lol)

Snakes and Ladders

Downfall

The Logo Game
