So what are earwigs FOR? Anyone know?

Now, I know spiders eat flies/mossies etc, but earwigs?
Was one on my soapdish this morning, running round and round the rim like he was in training for the Earwig Olympics.
So I screamed (as you do), removed the soap and tipped it into the lav. And flushed.
Can earwigs swim?Shock

I heard a radio interview once where they were talking about trying to find clever ways to get rid of mosquitoes completely. But first, they spent forever checking what purpose they serve, in case getting rid of them brought entire food chains toppling down.

Fortunately, turns out they're just bat snacks. Snacks! So now they're getting on with their experiments to get rid.

Id actually love to know what an earwig feeds.

Btw "bat snacks" auto corrected to bar snacks. Maybe earwigs could be bar snacks?
@AliceSprings123 yes they do fly! And have remarkable wings -
Thanks for the video. I didn’t know they had wings.

Would love to see how they fold them up again.

@Cassandrainthenight

That's earwig damage. Looking at forever gnawed on wisteria outside my back door pisses me off but I don't want to use pesticides...
Had no idea earwigs ate plants, I have had no end of plants that have been eaten but could never figure out what. And due the the way the leaves were being (just like your pic)I knew it wasn’t slugs and snails or caterpillars (as they’d all gone).

I’ve tried morning glory for the last two years but have totally given up now!

So maybe it’s earwigs!
