Is it just me or are boys clothes so boring!

I am sick to death of bloody dinosaurs on everything! I have 2 DS and often find the colours to be a bit drab, lots more black/brown/grey than you get in the girls section or the complete opposite it has to have awful neon colours.
I prefer pastel colours and a more traditional style, even in Sainsburus the girls section has beautiful floral traditional looking dresses and the boys seems to be wall to wall dinosaur!
They're only 3 and 1 so I don't have long before I'm sure they have an opinion on what they want to wear and knowing my luck it'll be dinosaurs Grin

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Little Bird (Jools Oliver) is now sold through Next website.
Ooh thanks

I have a girl but tend to find the supermarkets do good basics - such as plain brightly coloured tshirts. I’m another one who favoured gender neutral clothing when she was a baby and now hear daily requests to wear dresses though Grin.

ContessaVerde · 23/07/2021 12:43

Have you also noticed that the boys clothes with animals are always predatory animals (sharks/lions/dinosaurs etc) and the girls are always prey?
Blimey.... I hadn’t noticed this, but now you mention it i can see it.
My son loves bunnies so wears girl clothes with bunnies on.
Have you also noticed those woodland pals type designs which have foxes, bunnies bears and deer all hanging out together?
That drives me nuts.

I’ve found bright colours in Primark before. Sainsbury’s had a range of animal prints last time I looked, mostly boring colours but at least the print wasn’t bloody dinosaurs. Did manage to find bright colours in Tesco recently with Marvel characters on.

Boys have a smaller selection and mostly always boring colours or bloody Minecraft or PlayStation motifs. I’ve enlisted friends and family to watch out for bright colours, it’s become quite the treasure hunt!

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 23/07/2021 14:26

Try Gap they often have some nice bits or Boden.

KnobJockey · 23/07/2021 14:32

I absolutely find boys stuff better than girls in general. I do buy scandi stuff, but even in a supermarket- boys are a more practical cut, have primary colours, have lots more plain basics available. Girls, you can't buy anything without a ruffle/ sparkle/ pink.

What is it you are actually after for them (style wise, any examples to link?) And what budget do you have, and I'll try and find good examples for you.

KnobJockey · 23/07/2021 14:34

@HunterAngel what is it you're looking for, and what kind of budget? Might be able to find and link a few

HunterAngel · 23/07/2021 14:40

@KnobJockey, anything for a three to four year old that can take a lot of punishment! DS is pretty hard on clothes, particularly tops. Doesn’t help that DH is seemly blind to dirt until after the top has been washed so the stain doesn’t wash out

Brunts12 · 23/07/2021 14:55

@ContessaVerde
Have you also noticed that the sale rack for boys is much smaller?
Yes!!! It’s weird, isn’t it?! Same with online sale in Next and M&S!! Rather baffling.

KnobJockey · 23/07/2021 15:15

@hunterangel you honestly can't beat scandi clothes for hard-wearing. The sales are on everywhere at the minute, so scandi tops are about the same as next prices (maybe a little more) but they last so much better, and there's a thriving resale market on Facebook and vinted. A few links of sales and offers, size 104 is 3-4:

@blindgossips for more traditional looking clothes, check out la redoute. They almost always have a sale on, and codes about. Lindex also might be good for your little one, though they go a bit more garish for the bigger ones! But baby sizes sometimes go up to 3-4 if you like matching

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 23/07/2021 15:21

I buy my boys clothes from river island, M&S, Zara or next and I don’t do patterns or diggers, dinosaurs etc on clothes.

They have a lot of grey, navy, beige, sage green
Not everyone’s cup of tea but I like them.

KnobJockey · 23/07/2021 15:24

As much as customers complain about the lack of boys 'different' styles, unfortunately from a retailers perspective, it doesn't sell. I used to be the kids manager at a Zara store, and next before that. When it came to sale, we would be left with tons of boys shirts, patterned clothes, smart trousers, shorts with braces. The polo t-shirt stand, jeans, and t-shirts with a monkey/ dinosaur/ car on would be empty. In the girls section, it would be pretty evenly spread over all the different styles.

Also, in the nicest possible way, there's nothing stopping you looking at the 'girls' section. We shop through both sections for my daughter. However, you may find that although the girls section has more choice, about 60% of it is impractical crap. So you may prefer the colours, but to get them you need to put your child in hot pants/ sleeveless tops/ things with ruffles/ maxi dresses to the floor. Just what you want your 2 year old climbing up the slide in, obviously.

HunterAngel · 23/07/2021 15:28

@KnobJockey thank you!

Ren3e · 22/08/2024 01:22

Totally agree....I have 2 boys one 6 and the other 3. the 6 year old is so annoyed with the clothes and only wears certain things because nothing is cool which I don't blame him.
