York honeymoon ideas

Hello all!,

The DH and I soon to be are looking at York as a mini moon for later this year, as I don’t think our 2 week Bali / Maldives / other posh dreamy sunshine filled location is going to happen thanks to that pesky little pandemic that’s happening…!

We like the idea of York as neither of us explored it much as a city, close to lovely countryside, but hoping the city itself has lots of things to do and honeymoon type boutique hotels and excellent restaurants (obvs a trip to Bettys will be on the agenda during the day!)

Looking really for recommendations for intimate luxurious places to stay and eat please from anyone who knows the area! Prepared to splurge a bit!

Many thanks in advance

If you can fit it in a day trip to Whitby is lovely. You can drive across the moors to get there.

Whitby was where I went for my mini moon many years ago and have been regular visitors ever since. We are going to York next week for the week. It’s Dh’s home town and I lived there for a few years. Family are still there.

There is so much to do in York. I recommend trying to pick a dry weather week as lots to do outside. The river cruises are nice and you can get drinks on them. Lots of places to stroll and just enjoy a quiet pace of life. Or you can run around like a headless chicken trying to fit everything in.

I won’t recommend any hotels as these days we stay in premier inn or travelodge type places as cheap and clean when travelling with teenagers. I worked in the station hotel when I first moved there and always said one day I would stay but have not stayed there yet.
Congratulations and enjoy.
